what are some movies to watch that make you feel better when you just broke up with someone?

what are some songs to listen to that make you feel better?

nothing has ever made me feel better. i dove into music,

songs about heartache and pain. Mainly Elliott Smith, ha!

Exercise helped though, at the time. And hanging out with friends.

Excellent tune but not really an inspirational one to pull yourself out of sadness. If anything, it's touches that tragic chord in you.

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life

I know someday you'll be a star in someone else's sky

But why, why, why can't it be

Why can't it be mine?

george michael...I can't make you love me...looking forward to the day i can listen to that without the tears flowing

watching law and order...Jeremy Sisto....he's hot!

I'm having a hard time concentrating on anything anymore. I no longer read books or watch movies...my attention span can only last a few minutes. Just miserable and angry and finding life unbearable while soon to be xhusband moves out in 2 weeks. I'll feel better when he's gone. I hope.

For Girls

TV

  • Gilmore Girls (post breakup episodes: Max, Dean, Jess, Luke, Christopher, Luke again. Don't bother with the Logan one; there wasn't enough follow-up with it. Better yet, just watch the whole series, start to finish.)
    • Yes, I like Gilmore Girls. So sue me.

    [*]When Harry Met Sally

    [*]Breakfast at Tiffany's

    [*]Sleepless in Seattle

    [*]Titanic

    [*]Romeo & Juliet

Music

  • Alicia Keys: Fallin'
  • Diana Krall: The Look of Love

For Guys

TV

  • Any show/movie involving the following:
    • The warning "this film contains scenes of nudity, explicit sexual content...".
      • Bonus points for group lesbian scenes.

[*]An M4, M16, M249 or any item/vehicle that cannot be legally purchased in the United States by a party other than the Department of Defense.

      • Bonus points if it stars Stallone or Schwarzenegger.

[*]Fights. The more the better. The more brutal, the better, too.

      [*]A car that is either:

      • made before 1979
      • a Ferrari, or
      • a Lambo

    [*]Swingers. Of course.

[*]Any Tarantino movie. Again, the fights thing. Lots of 'em.

[*]Executive Decision. It's fun watching Steven Seagal getting sucked out of the plane.

[*]Titanic or Romeo & Juliet, as long as you only watch the scenes where Leo DiCaprio dies.

Music

  • Rage Against the Machine: Killing In The Name Of, Guerrilla Radio
  • Denis Leary: A__hole
  • Anything by a heavy metal band

watch the (girls gone wild) series, u will feel better :laugh:

Some of my all time fave breakup tunes:

Elliott Smith's "Waltz #1" beautifully describes the aftermath of a break up:

Every time the day

Darkens down and goes away

Pictures open in my head

Of me and you, silent and cliche

All the things we did and didn't say

Covered by what we did and didn't do

Going through every out I used to

Cope to make the repetition stop

What was I supposed to say?

Now I never leave my zone

We're both alone, I'm going home

I wish I'd never seen your face.

The music itself has this haunting broken music box quality that perfectly fits the words.

"For No One" by the Beatles (apparently about the end of Paul's relationship with Jane Asher)

Your day breaks, your mind aches

You find that all her words of kindness linger on

When she no longer needs you

"The Scientist" by Coldplay (yes, one of their only songs that I like :D)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3Kd7IGPyeg

Oh and I rush to the start.

Runnin' in circles, Chasin' tails

Comin' back as we are

The music video is particularly poignant, about the protagonist visiting the scene of a car crash the killed his gf (which symbolizes the end of their relationship). The whole thing is shot in reverse. It's about re-examining obsessively what went wrong in the aftermath of a split, trying fruitlessly to put the pieces back together.

"Black Star" by Radiohead

"The Dangling Conversation" by Simon and Garfunkel

Some of the lyrics are a bit heavy-handed, but overall it captures the quiet way in which people can fall out of love:

It's a still life water color,

Of a now late afternoon,

As the sun shines through the curtained lace

And shadows wash the room.

And we sit and drink our coffee

Couched in our indifference,

Like shells upon the shore

You can hear the ocean roar

In the dangling conversation

And the superficial sighs,

Are the borders of our lives.

And how the room is softly faded

And I only kiss your shadow,

I cannot feel your hand,

You're a stranger now unto me

Lost in the dangling conversation.

And the superficial sighs,

In the borders of our lives.

There are a bunch of others too...

When I had to cope with the end of my marriage, when I wanted to feel better I avoided anything romantic or sappy, anything where the guy gets the girl, etc. That included music and movies.

Action movies helped. There's lots of movies out there to fit that bill.

As for music:

Guns N' Roses -- You Could Be Mine, I Don't Care About You

Rage Against The Machine -- Killing in the Name

Metallica -- So What

Marilyn Manson -- The Beautiful People

AC/DC -- Shot Down in Flames

Linkin Park -- In The End
