Should I change my cell phone number?

Recommended Posts

I was with my GF 3 years and 3 months. She dumped me 5 weeks ago. Over the last 5 weeks I have seen her once (my fault) and I have sent maybe 6 texts with her replying. I have been trying to keep NC. In the last texts she said things are busy for her and she appears to be doing great. My problem is that every day I keep checking my cell phone every few hours to see if I have heard from her. This has been ongoing for 5 weeks. I am going nuts!! Her brother texts me every week to say hi. I want to change my cell phone number so I can move on, but I am afraid to do so without telling her as 3 weeks ago she said she would like to meet in a month to catch up. She has not brought this up again and I keep thinking if I change my number without telling her she may want to meet or want to get back together but because I have changed my number she would get no reply and I would loose her again. I think she has my home number and she has my email and address. I love her and want her back but it is not happening. I HAVE to move on with my life as this is affecting my emotional, physical health, I have been upset and the last few days have been awful, advice would be great, as I am not letting go, and going slowly crazy, thanks :)

Gavinus...trust me i know how you feel. Every text I get I hope it is him, every time it rings, I hope to see his name but alas it is not. We went through a similar situation last year where we stopped seeing each other, his wish, and I went NC. In that time I had decided to change my number (various reasons) and did not send him the text of my number change. Well I ran into him and we conversed and what did I do, I ended up giving him my new number. I thought me changing my number would be could for me to get over him because I would stop wondering if he would call but that lasted only for two days.

It is kind of up to you, I don't think changing you're number will affect you getting over her more quickly because then you will just be checking your emails that much more, and wonder if she knows you changed your number or if she tried calling you, etc. Whether you change your number or not, if she wants to talk to you, she will get a hold of you any way she can. (Unless you broke up with her and do not want to get back together and she is harassing you, the number change wont have the effect you are hoping for; but that is just my opinion) I think you're just going to have to go it the old fashioned way by giving yourself time to heal.

You are not alone though...I know the "crazy" you refer to I am currently courting it's twin, insanity :) Very much alike the two lol. A little "haha" for you. I know it does get easier, each day for me the a little hope dies and I don't think every text I get "is it him?" but it does still hurt. What happened, why did she end it?

It couldn't hurt..

Your phone service provider is required to give you one free number change per the FCC.

If it will help you with no contact, I don't see a problem with it. I'm sure she will find another way to get a hold of you if she really wants to. Good luck.

She ended it because in the end I emotionally withdrew from her because she would get sooo angry with me for no reason and she would yell at me, hit now and then and run me down :(. So I did what I had to do to keep me safe. I blame myself :I told her heaps her anger was not good, but I did not back it up with actions, merely comforted her afterwards when she cried. The worst part is she still blames me for her anger problems, I keep thinking maybe if I was stronger and left her she would have changed instead I accepted it, but I felt powerless to change it, and when you love somebody you make excuses for them (sigh)

If it will make you feel better why not, anything that makes you heal quicker. I wish I did it because I went for months checking my phone every few minutes for texts or missed phone calls.
