I'm Joe Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I am 24, I will be 25 in a couple months. I have really never dated, other than in High-school. Not that I haven't had plenty of opportunities, I have just sort of been focusing on things that have been more important to me. (house, car, job.) I can feel the lonely void creeping up on me though. It seems like more and more I am noticing how everyone else is together and I am alone... so I guess that means its time to start searching. My question really is what should my age range be for a woman? I know typically Men date younger women, and while I am certainly not opposed the idea, I am a bit concerned however with the maturity level women my age and younger. It seems to me that all the younger ladies who have it together will have already been snatched up. Another thing is that while I would have no personal problem getting with someone who is lets say 18-20, I think a girl that young might be "pushing it" as far as the social norm goes. I could really get into an older woman too. My only concern with that is that I myself might not be mature enough for the tastes of most older women. That being said I do think I am mature enough, but a 25 year old, never been in a real relationship guy might seem wildly inexperienced to a woman.... let say, 27-40 Would any of you older women date someone with my statistics? are there any family minded, mature 18-24 year old left? Any guys around my age have any insight? What should my age range be? I realize of course the question I am asking is highly relative to the person I find myself with, but I just though some general guidance might help me out.
SoulSearch_CO Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I'm 29 and wouldn't date somebody your age. No offense to you - you seem like a nice enough guy. If I were your age or a bit younger, I'd date you. It's just that I did SO MUCH changing between 24 and 29. I still think you have some growing to do. I also think that girls mature faster than guys. So a girl your age or younger should be just fine as far as the maturity level goes. And yes - I'm sure you could find plenty of mature relationship-minded women your age. Where? I have no idea - I'm not interested in dating girls your age, either.

I'm pretty much in the same boat with I'm Joe. most girls our age that are mature are married or in serious relationships. most of the others are still boozing it up chasing boys and playing the same mind games they played in high school. I feel your pain, man. EDIT: of course I have been to Iraq twice... maybe I'm not mature just aged.
Ronni_W Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 but a 25 year old' date=' never been in a real relationship guy might seem wildly inexperienced to a woman.... let say, 27-40[/quote'] For some "older" women, yes, they wouldn't want the potential hassles. For others, they'd see it as a challenge or distraction. And still others would enjoy having a "blank slate", for either self-interested or more noble reasons, or a bit of both. And, er, IME, the bonus with 22 to 30-year old guys is that there's lots of great sex (even if that may take a couple of "lessons".) Generally speaking...each person is going to be different, of course...not saying that EVERY 22 to 30-y/o is automatically a horndog!
Sam Spade Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 25 is a weird spot, that's the moment where most guys begin to turn into a real person (at least that's the timing for me). So, your best bet is to find a woman your exact same age, with similar concerns in life. The older women will eat you alive, the younger ones are just too annoying and will drive you crazy.
melodymatters Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Timing is everything Joe ! I always dated guys my age or older, mostly older. Then, I met a cute guy when I walking down the street : he called me ten minutes after I got home ! When I found out he was 24 I was like " oh well, who cares, it's not like I'm looking for anything serious". But, we fell in love and are now very happily married. He says the same thing about girls his age, thats it's all drama and BS and he has nothing in common with them. I just turned 42. I have my pic up in my profile still from the "show your pics thread" Be open minded and be nice to everyone. You never know what's going to happen !

monkey00 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I'm 24 and personally a woman a few age older than me fits me better. I'm a balanced guy who has done a lot of traveling and have experienced a lot in life, so it's only natural I'd want to be with someone who has gone through the same..preferably a first born. Besides younger girls often go through a lot of soul searching, and they don't always know what they want. Having dated younger women and women my age, they usually are less grounded and don't know what they want. Or they party it down and do a lot of dating until they're smart enough to realize their looks are fading. While it's good to assume that older woman know what they want, it doesn't ring true every time. An ex of mine was the same age as me and she was really mature and grounded. But to each their own, when it boils down to attraction who's to say if age matters.
Trialbyfire Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Joe, we can all say for you that age matters or age doesn't matter but when it comes down to it, who are you honestly attracted to? If the woman who you ask out, is or isn't of the compatibility and chemistry, age won't make an ounce of difference.
nothappyjan Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I am 22 turning 23 soon and I am dating a 29 year old guy and we are getting along just fine and the age difference is not even noticeable. You asked if there were any younger girls with their head screwed on right and the answer is YES and i have lots of single friends who are like me and mature and responsible but quite often we are harder to find as we are not out there coming on to all the guys or behaving in man- attention grabbing ways. So i think you could find a great younger girl to go out with IMO 18 is too young but anywhere about 20 to 27 should be a fine age range for you. Just wait for the right girl i have no dating experience but the guy i am dating is so good and patient and you just need to find someone that appreciates that they can teach you a lot about relationships

I think the perception older women might have of a guy me age is one of immaturity and adolescence, and even if they are right in most cases that is just not me. I work 40+ hours a week, I do my own shopping, I pay my own mortgage, I clean my own house. Even emotionally speaking, I have my head screwed on tight. I don't know what they would be afraid of? that ill wake up early every saturday morning to watch cartoons instead of cuddle in bed with them? I guess to be fair this is the same thing I am worried about when dating someone younger than me.
rlindzie Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 well i have to say that i always ate older guys [now] i tried the younger thing and i hated it. my current boyfriend is 24 and i am 19, our age diffrence is never an issue. he was hesitant at first but when he got to know me he was comfortable that i wasnt a giggly teenager. If you find a girl who likes you and you like her and it works who cares what the age diff. is [so long as she is over 18] but I will say, the younger you go the harder it is to find mature girls.
terra Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 hey Joe, I say just be open and look at the person and not so much their age. I'm the same as you... didn't date too much when I was younger focused on University, traveling, then my career. I'm now 27 have only dated a few people and had never really had a serious boyfriend. I recently met a guy who is 23 and we are basically at the same stage in life. He is really responsible and mature (possibly a bit more than me), has a good job and a house. He is more settled and stable than I am. We want the same things out of life and enjoy each others company. I say you have nothing to worry about! There are plenty of girls out their that would love a young and responsible guy. Your type is hard to come across! Just don't limit yourself with something like age which doesn't give a very accurate depiction of the person. Good luck!

I guess to be fair this is the same thing I am worried about when dating someone younger than me. I'll just say that the underlined part is something incredibly rare for a guy your age. Don't take that personal. But seriously - most guys right at my age or younger have not turned out well for me. A big selling point in your case is owning your own home. IMO, that shows a good deal of stability and maturity and if I was to look at you and decide "date" or "no date," I'd give it a shot. I don't know - maybe it's because I'm living in the land of ski/snowboard-bums that piece an income together from an assortment of part-time jobs and pay rent. My current BF - one of his big selling points is the fact that he's been at his job for 8 years. Seriously - I consider several factors when deciding to date somebody. Job stability, education, relationship history, living situation, and other relationships (family, friends). Most guys younger than I am don't check out on two or more of these. You'll find a woman to mesh with eventually. Who knows - you may have to wait until your 30's to be truly appreciated. That is unfortunate in your case, Joe - you seem to be a pretty good guy.
