Zorie Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I'm looking for a new perfume that will make me feel attractive, sexy, appealing on dates Any guys out there care to share thier favorite scents for thier women? feel free to share even the ones that may be "too much" or a turnoff? I know perfumes may smell different on different people due to body chemistry etc and I have a couple that I've been wearing for years and quite honestly they now remind me of my old relationship so im ready for something new! I dont particularly go for ones that smell too sweet or fruity... my old standby is Clinique Happy (quite sick of it lol) but ive also been wearing Marc Jacob - Daisy alot. Im also in my mid 30's if that makes any difference for choosing scents. And women if you have one that you love or have received lots of compliments from men that would be great also! I've spent so much time in the stores smelling perfumes Its just become overwhelming for me and everything starts to smell the same after a while
Sam Spade Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Go for a 3 mile run, then show up on the date (without showering, shower before the run). I'm serious. Also serious - whatever perfume you choose, take it easy on it, will ya? As little as posible on the throat is fine. When it doubt - pick Aqua di Parma.
Trialbyfire Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Your body chemistry really, really matters. For example, a lot of perfumes tend to smell kind of baby powerish on me. Don't ask me why beyond that my body chemistry isn't highly acidic. Forget what a guy likes because he likes it on the body chemistry of the woman he's smelled it on previously. Go back to the store and keep on trying them on, until you've hit the perfect combination for you.
Dexter Morgan Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I personally have NEVER smelled a perfume I like for a woman. they all make me sick to my stomach and dont smell good at all.
runner Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 couldn't say really; i don't make it a point to ask for brand names. you're probably best getting advice from girlfriends.
Shygirl15 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Zorie, how many perfumes do you expect to purchase? You'll likely get 101 names of different brands of perfumes in here. Even more confusing.
PrincessPeach Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 My boyfriend really likes the smell of cooking meat But in all seriousness I don't really like to use perfume myself, but I do use a kind of fruity body spray that he's complimented a couple times and likes the smell of (though this doesn't really seem your style). To be honest he probably just likes the smell mostly because it reminds him of me rather than the smell itself. So just go with something new and fresh that you like. The guy is going to develop a liking for it too because of its association with you (evidence in you associating your smells to your old relationships that this is what happens).
missdependant Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I would suggest a yummy-smelling body wash, good shampoo and conditioner and lotion instead of perfume (the best smelling ones that are mild, but still noticeable are from bath and body works or victoria's secret from what I've found.. and I'm a lotionholic). Perfume seems overwhelming.. I'm not a guy.. but I have an opinion about cologne just the same.
SpanksTheMonkey Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Elisabeth Arden's original red door was my fav but like you said it def reminds me of a past relationship so something new would be nice as well Ive been looking too. I will say Ive noticed when I wore J.los Miami glow I get nice complements but its on the strong side its one of those that has to work for you. Try red door you may like it or Tommy girl is nice too but thats more of a everyday out and about one IMO red doors more date material.. Theres one more I really like too but its on the expensive side its French and comes with shamrocks on the lid name is "de gress" or something like that? If I remember right its light and can work on just about anybody id think I lost my old bottle or id tell you the exact name just ask for French shamrocks lol..
fral945 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 As long as a woman isn't wearing old lady perfume it's a turn-on.
clv0116 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Many of them give me a headache, but Giorgio Aire is one I like quite a lot.
jerbear Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I have to go with TBF's response and add my own. I would add that you pick something that fits your personality. In regards to what I like, I would suggest something not available where you are. It would turn heads. In regards to brands, Clive Christian, Shalimar, and some others will always turn my head.
Sam Spade Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 There are more perfume brands than the entire universe will ever need. I find it pretty disgusting - the variety of crap makes it impossible to, and pointless to even attempt, to appreciate any actual decent smell. Every showbusiness and fashion failure have their own brand now. Very classy. I'd recommend sticking with very basic, very classic, true and tried scents. This would also minimize the risk of somehow chosing the guy's ex scent. THe truth is, most guys won't care too much what perfume you wear, as long as it's not suffocating. I would notice it only if it is old school.
boldjack Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Individual scent on an individual woman is ....well....individual. Do you have any man friends? Try some on them. I don't particularly like anything of the air freshener type, you know.. where a woman walks into the room and everything smells like her in 5 seconds..sort of like tear gas. When my wife and I first dated, she would smell soooo good, sometimes like the beach, sometimes like a garden, sometimes like my mom's linen closet, everyday it was different and always wonderful. My wife is also very health aware so everything is as natural as possible. The first time we had sex, she rubbed orange peel between her breasts, oh boy! So I guess my advice is to try different things and go natural .
girlcrazy Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 i really like to smell body lotion on a woman and conditioner/shampoo in her hair and dont really care to smell perfume. A little bit of Johnsons&johnsons Vanilla baby lotion on my girl and it sends me..
colosseum Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 i dont think enough guys 1. are sensitive enough to notice and distinguish the scents and 2. care enough about the scent that it should make a significant impact on whether he likes her or not. seriously--guys aren't like girls (most heterosexual ones i think); we're notconcerned with what/how you smell. that said, don't come to a date smelling like bad feet, industrial chemicals, or not-having-showered-for-a-week smell. if u really wanna know, anything strong i find difficult to like--scent or amount. just my 2cents
Author Zorie Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Thanks for all the replies! I don't generally wear a lot of perfume just a spray that I "walk into" and I know women who wear an obnoxious amount that can be quite offensive and may not even realize it... I guess I was hoping for a general consensus of something out that I may not be familiar with, that the men out there have taken a particular liking to and I could try out to see if it works for me. There are so many scents out there, I just wanted some new things to try and a starting point. In the past the scents I've gotten the most compliments on always get discontinued!!
SoulSearch_CO Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Clinique Happy - I get tons of compliments on it because it's unique. It's kind of a citrus scent. But I seriously get guys asking me all the time what I'm wearing because they want to buy some for SOs, or from guys I'm dating - they love it, too.
nicki Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Yes, subtle and closest to natural is best. I like to rub almond oil on my body with just a drop of vanilla and orange essential oils. Love the Kama Sutra body powder too, in raspberry. It smells and tastes yummy.
JamesM Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Since very few are answering your question, I will. My favorite is... Estee Lauder Pleasures. http://www.esteelauder.com/product/mpp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT574 I have smelled it on many women...my wife included...and it smells good no mater who wears it. There have been others along the way, but to this day Pleasures is the most "attractive" to me. BTW, do a search. There was a similar thread I think with quite a few responses.

jerbear Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Use strawberry scented shampoo, we'll still be ok with the scent over perfume.
Isolde Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I am in love with Hanae Mori, which I've only sampled at Sephora. It is really, really expensive -- but it is the kind of scent that a man would like, trust me.
stepka Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 For daytime I love Zen by Shisheido, and for evening, my favorite is Opium--I get lots of compliments on it and it's very sexy. Of course I never pile it on, but the real trick is to not buy cheap perfume--usually when people complain about too much perfume, the real problem is that the cheap stuff is jarring to the senses. The good stuff is usually at least $50/bottle.
