We are dating and so far so good. How is that misrepresenting oneself? OK, I will admit that you never specifically SAID that the so-called dating site was on the internet (but reasonable people suspect that it was). By the very nature of your having "joined a dating site" you were implying that you were interested in dating. Then you replied "not going to date for a while, but thanks" As (the rest of us) are not in the habit of booking dates for five or fifteen years in advance, the very fact that you put yourself 'out there' on a dating (web?)site suggests that you were open to dating.
