PAHAHAHAHAHA touche, Touche!!!

:lmao: I love when people say "touche, Touche" It almost never happens! That was a funny ad though wasn't it? Your post reminded me of it.

I typically don't wear makeup the same way either... and like you, wear a lot less in the summer. Oh, how I can't wait for the sun to tan my face!

Don't you guys have good sun all year round?

I never wear heavy eye makeup AND dark lipstick. It's only one or the other. Wearing them together is what makes you look foolish.

I'm really a fan of a dark, smouldering eye with a nude glossy lip.

I totally agree about the eye/lip thing. I've always done it that way too. But nude glossy is too washed out looking on me so if my eye is stronger I'll just wear a tinted lip gloss.

What makes you think men look at your face? :lmao:

In all seriousness I prefer the "girl next door" look. I don't know if the women are wearing makeup, but it rarely looks like it. For me I'd say the adage less is more would be most appropriate. Overdone in any respect is not attractive to me at all.

As for the images, I refuse to acknowledge them... Too many variables to make a real comparison. As an amateur photographer I know you can make anyone look better or worse "then they are".

That's a myth, at least in Northern California (the better, and more important part). Even when it's sunny in the winter, it's too cold to spend time tanning outside!

I can't stand it when people wear red lipstick and NOTHING else. It's so weird.

I don't like nude lips or smokey eyes--too "glam glam" for my liking. I like makeup that looks either "classic" (powder perfect, lined eyes and lipstick) or makeup that looks totally natural.

Here's another one of mainly "withouts": http://www.topsocialite.com/celebrities-without-makeup/

Giselle, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Julia Roberts all look gorgeous sans makeup.

Kate Winslet looks awesome too - but she IS wearing makeup. See, THAT's the trick to applying makeup that looks like you're not wearing any!

Okay, no way that's Jessica Simpson in that pic. Or is there more than one of her?

That wasn't what I was suggesting.

But even Gwen Stephani does a neutral eye (albeit cat-eyed) with her red lips.

I just realized that my profile pics reflect what I was talking about. I have everything from my minimal summer make-up to my evening makeup represented on there.

My mom was a model in the 60's and she's taught me so much about make-up. She taught me lots of little "tricks" but I only employ those on very special occasions. Too much time and effort otherwise.

Oh ok, in total agreement, then. I actually never wear red lipstick--only burgundy, and actually I hardly ever wear lipstick at all. Usually clear gloss.

The third one is stunning! You are wearing shadow and lipstick yet it looks strangely natural on you.

Speaking of tricks--I love the "shadow down the nose and highlight on the center" trick. It reallllllly works.

.

I was SO going to say that. But I already had my fill of sexist remarks for the day, in the other survey thread. :D

Touche, that was a funny add. Ads can me incerdibly stupid sometimes. Same as those before and after weightloss ads where they show the before from a far away pic that could virtually be anyone, and the now pic totally up close and you can see the face no problem. Reminds me of internet dating actually, and why I won't do it...

I can't tell, those pictures didn't show their boobs.

Thanks! How sweet. :) But I wasn't sure which pic you were talking about. I have two albums of my pics. Is it the one in the bikini or my Sarah Palin impression?

I'm not sure about that one. I sometimes do shadow down both sides of my nose and blend to make it slightly thinner. Also I use highlighter (the eyeshadow highlighter) and I highlight the little "v" dip part in the lips and the two lines that go down from the bottom of the nose to the lips. You just highlight that really lightly with the eyeshadow highlighter and then pat it with translucent powder. It gives a sexy defined look to your lips.

I have an eyebrow trick too but I hardly ever do it as it takes forever to get right and natural looking.

 I know. Lots of false advertising out there for sure.

Sharon Stone probably looks better in comparison to the others! Now Cher...

Katherine Heigl is still a cutie, I like her. But really it is terribly harsh to expect these women to be perfect.

I think makeup is great when done by a professional, and all of those women can afford to have it done as such which is why they all look so gorgeous with their Hollywood face on. But when you do it yourself and try to recreate the heavy foundation, lipstick, mascara etc normally it will turn out terrible. It really does depend on if the person applying it knows what they are doing or not.

I prefer a full face...smoky eyes and flawless complexion...glowing skin and very minimal lip color

Yeah, I know I'm using Angelina Jolie as an example and that's not really the average person, but I think her photos provide the contrast I was looking for.

So WHAT LOOK DO YOU LIKE BEST AND WHY?

No/very little makeup--maybe just mascara and lip balm

(scroll down a bit)

Subtle makeup-some concealer and liner

Full makeup (yes, this looks natural, but believe me it is a full face)

All else equal (i.e. Jolie), the sublte make up version is best IMO. But, in general, it is important to emphasize that the importance of make up is inversely related to the natural hotness of the girl. There are girls that are flawless to begin with should not even bother (i.e. Jolie). Girls with something to emphasise/conceal here and there will do much better if don't leave the house (or the bathroom), without some make up on, ever, ever. Sure, takes effort, but is worth it - if you do it consistently, a guy will never know the difference

It's situational for me. I prefer a girl to dress the part. Meaning if we're going out to a fancy dinner or something, I like her to wear make up. That being said, I love a girl who can wake up in the morning, roll out of bed and not put on any make up and still look good. Not magazine hot, but passable lol.

You totally make sense!

I like being able to switch back & forth. It's a lot of fun being able to look a little different all the time.

but then again, what do we (men) know... we don't know anything!

As long as she doesn't end up looking like Tammy Faye. Another are women that shave their eyebrows off and draw new ones that don't even look real. That just does not look good.

Yet when they see Oompa Loompa cakeface or the typical airbrushed celebrity photo, they LOVE it.

Any photo buff will tell you that what looks good on cam and in real life are different. I love a more natural look with just minimal makeup myself.

Plus the other thing I find extremely wrong with those before and after photos that people do surveys on, is that the before picture is always just a BAD picture of a person where as the after pic is always a best pic.

If I take a bad pic of a woman WITH make-up and compare it to a really good pic of the same woman without, then guess what? The no make-up pic will win.

Exactly, they're ridiculous.

I hate makeup, in theory and in practice. My last girlfriend never wore any at all and I've literally never seen a prettier face than hers. I wouldn't want any girlfriend of mine to wear makeup - how does it work when you want to get close to them? Surely you can't kiss them or anything, or put your face close to theirs?

I've seen a fair few *good* pictures of people without makeup, and they look fantastic I think. I just don't like the made-up kind of look. But it's so prevalent these days there's no avoiding it, I suppose.
