blind_otter Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I make most of my son's babyfood. He's liked everything I've given him, from pumpkin mash to blueberries and apples mixed together. I'd previously given him coconut milk mixed with rice cereal, which he absolutely loved. Tonight I made some mashed sweet potato with coconut milk mixed in to make it thinner, and he didn't seem to like it. He only ate a few spoonfuls and refused the rest, so I gave that portion to my dog (who gets all leftover babyfood and is getting fat). Should I freeze the rest of the sweet potato and try it again in a week or two? Or maybe do you think he just didn't like that mix? I tasted it, btw, and it tasted fine. A little bland for me, but he has a palate untainted by excessive sugar and salt.
Geishawhelk Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Well...Maybe he really just doesn't like sweet potato prepared that way. My dad says: "If you find something you don't like, try it served up in two other completely different ways. If you still don't like it - you really DON'T like it." Much as it pains me to say so, I have found him to be consistently right! Dish it up differently.... see what happens.
Author blind_otter Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 I think you might be right. I steamed and mashed them. Maybe I should roast the sweet potato. I think they taste better that way myself. Thanks for the advice!!
Dumbledore Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Maybe I should roast the sweet potato. Baked sweet potato. Sometimes, if it's got an alluring shape, it may never make it to the oven.
quankanne Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 apparently my grandnephew is a huge fan of sweet potatoes, I think his mama just steams them in the microwave, with no spices or flavorings. my guess is that Baby Otter didn't like the coconut-tater combo ...
Geishawhelk Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 It's also a good idea to try making food your dog will turn up its nose at.... Faaaat dawg!! Come on, waddles!
