Kasan Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 and caught the Oprah show. The topic today today, was the real reasons men cheat. She had the author Gary Neuman who wrote the book "The Truth About Cheating." It was pretty staggering to hear that one in three men cheat, and most women will never find out. She is making this book available to download for free on her website until 7 pm est tomorrow. Of course, I am not excluding women who cheat, however a book isn't available to download for free, that I know of.
Trialbyfire Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 That's a lower statistic than I thought. Thought it was closer to 1 in 2 or 50% of both genders.
IfWishesWereHorses Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 TBF, I don't disagree with you often, but I don't believe for one minute that one in two women cheat. I'm sure plenty of women cheat that's high in my estimation. I'ld believe one in two men easily.
Trialbyfire Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I could easily be wrong on this statistic. Just something that came off the top of my head from reading on LS. I will say that there are far more female cheaters than you might expect. I was surprised at how many more there actually are, in my exposure on LS. Times are a-changing and women are catching up with men, in good and bad ways.
manugeorge Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Men are only as faithful as their options...maybe they should change that to men and women are only as faithful as their options. My opinion is that men may not necessarily seek it out but if it fell in their lap or was presented on a platter, guilt free and no chance of getting caught, then the temptation will be incredibly hard to resist. It goes along the lines of what we as humans beings do when no one is looking.

Women don't hold the highground in this.

I wonder how many women would turn down a man just because he is married or has a girlfriend.

According to the OM/OW forum which is primarily OWs, most know the man is previously committed at the start or remain in the affair, regardless of previous commitment. As far as the overall population of women, I have no idea.
Heroic Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I can't believe that statistic..... I'm 40 and have yet to meet a man in my circles who cheats. I know of at least two women who do though.
Author Kasan Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 The results of studies are spread widely, suggesting that anywhere from 22 to 70 percent of husbands cheat on their wives. Many suggest the current acceptable statistic is that roughly half of all men have had affairs. Ruth Houston, the founder of infidelityadvice.com, says that anywhere from 38 to 53 million men in the United States have cheated on their wives. In other words, nearly one in every three couples will be affected by an affair. You may be unsure whether you and your husband are one of those couples, or you may confidently shake your head and be like so many who never imagined such a possibility. I’ m not sure how confident you should be that your husband would never cheat, though. According to my research, 69 percent of husbands who cheated never considered it a possibility. The rest who thought they might do it either told their wives they never would or cleverly avoided the topic. Think your husband will confess if he’ s already done it? Extremely unlikely. Cheating men rarely do. Without being questioned, a mere 7 percent admitted to their wives that they had cheated. And unfortunately, few men admit to it even after multiple questioning. Shockingly,68 percent never admit to cheating or only do so after their wives have concrete evidence of the affairs.
Island Girl Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I wonder if the statistic factor in all relationship or just the current one. I have cheated on boyfriends in the past. I am not a serial cheater. And that is why I disagree with the "once a cheater always a cheater" philosophy. I had reasons. Not excuses and it was horrible for me to do so but I did. My husband cheated prior to us. He had pretty much the same reasons I did. Neither of us have cheated or will cheat in this relationship. If we were going to it sure would've happened before now. But we would both add to the authors statistics if the past is included. Am I making my point? To put it more succinctly, maybe the guy in the relationship has already done his cheating and now falls into the 70% category but it is over and done with so now he is in the 30% bracket.
Squirtal Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Just throwing this out there in the name of debate...could it be women cheat just as much but don't get caught as much? I don't believe its fair to say men do the majority of cheating...I know of both sexes who have been cheated and done the cheating. Just a matter of thought.

I don't believe its fair to say men do the majority of cheating...I know of both sexes who have been cheated and done the cheating. Just a matter of thought. Sure, I believe that women cheat as much as men, but as I stated in the first post, the book was available for free by going to the Oprah site, and downloading it. Now, I haven't read the book, just glanced at it briefly, but it has a questionnaire in it, warning bells, cheating signals, and lying signs. Interesting discussion on whether or not to go to therapy, healing after the affair, and what the husband can do to help the wife. Of course my thoughts were, to take the information and see if it could be used for men who have had their wives cheat on them. I think some of the information in the book would work equally well for both sexes. Just from my quick look...................
Woggle Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Women are just as bad as men when it comes to this issue.
Nikki Sahagin Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I think women cheat as much but are less likely to be suspected or get caught. I know of a lot of females who have cheated/are cheating on their partners. I don't actually think it's more men or more women. And as people have said; they don't take into account people who have cheated in the past and wouldn't again.
