:lmao: Great minds! I have that in watermelon and black!

 Small world.

I was thinking about that pic that shadow previously posted, where it showed both her clothing style and body type. While I could be wrong, she doesn't strike me as the type of woman who wears fru-fru or frumpy. She also doesn't strike me as the type of woman who's a slave to fashion, in that being cutting edge trumps looking good!

This top is very casual, a little conservative and yet, has some oomph if worn and carried in a certain way. Also, I'm guessing it's still cold where shadow lives but I could be wrong. She doesn't strike me as someone who lives in the good ol' south.

I love dresses also, and over the knee is OK too but not much. Sometimes a dress looks overdone for a casual date but I guess I'd like to see what you have in mind.

I think that a dress is almost never never overdone. I wish more women wore dresses, all kinds of. Just the thought of a light summer dress paired with sneakers is enough to make me bust a nut

I love that style of top, and have it in a few versions from different designers. The Bebe one is for outside of work, as it's really form fitting. I have others that are a little looser that I wear to the office, but have the same shape. Like Shadow, I like to look good, but will not be a slave to fashion or follow lame trends that don't fit my lifestyle or body shape.

I believe Shadow is in Boston, but I could be wrong. I remember her and her BF (ex?) commuting between NYC an Boston.

also, no level of fitness/hotness justifies wearing a tank top in public :(

So what is someone like who lives in the "good ol' south?" Just curious.

Ah, okay, I would have pegged her as a north-easterner, for some reason. Don't know if that was from previous posts creating the thought or that she never talks about how hot it is outside.

A t-shirt with no sleeves? Who would wear that in the heat of summer? What about a bikini? I guess that's bad too.

Would a burka be ok?

How about a safari shirt with rolled up sleeves, hmm ? Or a dainty semi-transparent whit cotton shirt :o

Touche I think you would look really hot in a burka. :lmao:

what about a sleeveless burka.

I wear tank tops in the summer, not to work though. I think they are fine.

:laugh:Not sure how to take that! Yes, I'd wear a sleeveless burka I guess. Maybe that's what the prostitutes wear over there!:lmao: With a slit up the side to show a little leg.

Yes, tank tops are fine I think but yeah, not at work of course.

A safari shirt with rolled up sleeves? I can see that in certain instances.

No on the "semi-transparent" cotton shirt though.

And tank tops, just like anything else, can be trashy or classy. Just depends on the tank top and on the person wearing them;)

Less articulate than Shadow, that's for sure. (Don't mean to offend, but...)

I think MovingOn was referring to MEN wearing tank tops. No man should ever wear a tank top, unless he's a professional athlete actually engaging in his sport at the time he's wearing it.

Wow, I'm so surprised at you! It's not offensive to me (I'm from New York City originally anyway) but it shows some ignorance on your part, SG. No offense but it does. People are no more or less articulate around "these parts" than they are anywhere else. There are highly educated people and intelligent people here as well as those who aren't...just like anywhere other part of this country of ours. I've seen some real "bumpkins in the Northeast (where I'm from) as well.

OH! Ok. I get it. And I agree. Not a good look.

Word.

Why do women think hot weather is a license to get 70% naked? Men wear long pants and full short sleeve shirts in summer and we live to tell. Summer dresses are uber classy and sexy as well.

Casual is one thing but if you're out or on a date come on.

But I'm a straight man and have no fashion sense so ....

most summer dresses are sleeveless or halter tops. what is the difference.

also men wear shorts and t-shirts in the summer.

Obviously it is different at work. And if I was going out on a date. But hanging out in the summer why not wear shorts and a tank top.

Although I agree with the no tank tops on men that is just yuck.

Well first of all I'm extremely conservative. But wearing a sleeveless top isn't being 70% naked to me.

What's funny is that I don't even wear tank tops OR shorts out in public...but that's another story. I just don't see anything wrong with them.

Uh-oh, yes, the look is so wrong on so many levels, that I'm projecting and wary of it even on women :o. But, as long as it is not an actual tank top intended to be worn as *underwear*, there are good options for girls.

The white T-shirt is always a great look too, as long as it also isn't of the underwear variety (i.e. way too thin). Then of course, there is Marlon Brando in "Streetcar desire" that makes me wonder if it isn't okay after all :lmao:.

What? It's true. Most of my male friends would say something like this.

"She looks hawt in that dress thing"

or

"What an arse"

or

"Guuuhhhh"

I've never heard a hetero man say, "I like a woman in a silk boucle jumpsuit".

Lol........................

Thanks for the advice, guys. You've given me a lot to consider.

I never wear skirts for some reason, but I think I might start. what about a muted skirt right above the knee with black leggings/stockings, boots and a nice sweater?

Yes, thank you! That top is just my style. I hate ordering clothes online, so maybe I'll stop by Bebe when I visit the mall.

You're right -- it's still very much winter where I live, though the last couple of days have been surprisingly warm.

Not in Boston anymore, but close. Somewhere equally cold.

Obviously there are "bumpkins" everywhere. However, statisically speaking, simply given the shear number of top schools and white collar professionals in the Yank' region of the county (as compared to the south), there are MORE articulate people in the northeast than the south. That's also been my experience. Heavily populated areas have proportionally more articulate/professional people than rural areas. You have to admit that the south is generally much more rural than the northeast.

Please note that I did not equate being articulate with any level of intelligence. Some of the stupidest people I know still know how to spin words elloquently. ;)

Clearly there is no hope for me as I have been known to wear a tank top and a denim skirt in the summer.

Good thing I am already married!

I've lived in both the city (various ones) and the country, and find there are also proportionately more butt heads in heavily populated areas than in the country. Unfortunately. That's a HUGE part of the reason I moved back to the country. :)

Thank you! Exactly! And I've lived in both too including two of the largest/most populated cities in the world (NYC and Mexico City among others.) You can have city life and all its kooks. It's not for me either.

Many people around where I live come from nearby "sophisticated" cities. And they couldn't wait to leave either. These are articulate professionals too.

Anyway, who cares? I'd rather people not know about this place. Who wants more "city" people coming in. Let them stay in the city.

I just thought it was wrong to assume that because someone is so articulate that they couldn't possibly be from the South. Some of my favorite writers are from this part of the country. I mean it's just silly to make that kind of assumption, really.

I say do what you want. The people looking down their noses at you due to your style (or their perceived lack thereof) will likely trip and fall on their faces.

It gets worse... I live in the South!!! :lmao:
