chris250 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Does anyone here have problems with their attic in their house?
Author chris250 Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 There's no code for anything. I have a literal attic with literal problems. I hear a leak somewhere in one of the pipes. Has anyone else had problems with their attic similar to this or other things?
JamesM Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 If it is the roof, call a roofing guy (or gal). if it is an actual pipe (which some of us do have in our attics), then call a plumber. If the leak continues, then call all of the above and the insurance guy and the water restoration guy. In all cases, determine the problem and call someone qualified. Yes, I have had a roof that leaked. The whole (flat) roof needed replacement. I also had all shingles on the rest of the house replaced. I had a chimney that leaked around the edges. In this case, I replaced the cement on the crown and all leaks have stopped. I also put new sealant around the chimney. If the pipe in your attic is leaking, then this is actually more serious as the leak could get bigger. Then it will leak into the house and ruin the ceilings. Do something...soon.

carhill Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 OP, do you live in a freezing weather area and/or did you have a recent freeze? Also, if your house is newer, it could have PEX water piping, which has had issues with connector failure. I'm most familiar with copper and steel piping so could help with those. If your electrical system has been modified or added to recently, and you have copper water pipes, you could be experiencing electrolysis. One of my business colleagues was re-plastering the ceiling of his bathroom last week and noticed a couple of rusty nail heads and, upon further inspection, found the drain from his upstairs shower was just starting to leak, barely drip, drip. So, down the ceiling came and they had to sweat off the lead doping on the cast iron pipes and install all new, then replace the ceiling, re-plaster and paint. Took him about a week. We don't know what the word "contractor" means
