MalachiX Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Last V-day was up in the air since we were breaking up but still talking. Now I'm facing my first V-Day with no one. I really don't wanna do the sad, lonely, every-body-feel-sorry-for-me thing. Anyone got any tips for how to get through V-Day without collapsing into a fit of depression and regret? Maybe like beating to death a hobo or something?
carhill Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Send a friend a V-day card. I do this with a couple of good friends, letting them know I value their friendship. One is my best friend's wife, who has doted on me for years, way back before I was married. The other is a good female friend with whom I share a long history. No sex, no romance, just really good feelings. It's nice to say "thank you" to people and V-day is as good a day as any. I've found, in the past when I was single, that looking outside myself helped bring joy to such occasions. Brightening someone's day brings sunshine into our own.
sedgwick Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I lucked out this year. There's a dance company from CA I really love, and I've wanted to study with them and/or see them perform live for a couple of years now. They're coming to NYC for a performance and a workshop and calling it the "Tough Love Weekend." I'm really excited. I may not have a boyfriend, but I'll be surrounded by half-naked women on Valentine's Day!

I gaurantee if you ask a few lucky ladies if they want to be your valentine one or all of them will say yes then just take your valentine out to dinner or what ever it is u do for ur valentine. GL u have all week
urdone Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 You could be sitting around wondering what the guy who your misses cheated on you with is giving her for V-Day.:mad::mad::mad:

PinkToes Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 OK, I'm gonna try that.... surrounding myself with half-naked women, just to get all you guys to show up! ;-) Can't speak for the men, but I think Valentine's Day is a perfect time to buy myself something I really want. And cards for friends, like carhill suggested, are awesome too. I have a girlfriend who looks forward to February 15th every year.... when all the chocolate is half price. And if nothing else, remember that a lot of the couples out 'celebrating' aren't all that happy; they're just going through the motions. Personally, I'd rather be with my puppies. :-)

Do I have any ladies who can offer all of the above along with perhaps and assortment of cocktails?
PinkToes Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 OK, how about chocolate martinis for the half-naked ladies; Checker Cab Blonde Ale for the boys. And did I mention we'll be meeting at Madona's favorite little Bronx sports bar?? ;-)
Butterfly01 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Ugh, all week I've been thinking about what he will be doing for his new gf this Valentine's day. So my friends are taking me to see "he's just not that into you" and then LOTS of wine and dancing!!!!
Author MalachiX Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 OK, how about chocolate martinis for the half-naked ladies; Checker Cab Blonde Ale for the boys. And did I mention we'll be meeting at Madona's favorite little Bronx sports bar?? ;-) Well first let me assure you that I'm all man and all my interest comes from the half-naked ladies. That said.....................................can guys still have the chocolate martini's? Ugh, all week I've been thinking about what he will be doing for his new gf this Valentine's day. I just talked to him. They both somehow contracted leprocy and are now going to be going through the very painful treatment procedure. Feel better now?
haley121 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I know how you feel. All the V-day commercials make me want to shoot somebody. As for my advice on surviving it, round up all of your single friends--girls and guys both. I'm sure they're all feeling similarly and will welcome the chance to hang out with a group of people who aren't making googly eyes at each other. Go out to eat at a cheap restaurant. All the fancy ones will be packed but you'll most likely not see any mushy couples at taco bell on V-day. haha! You could also order pizza or go to the grocery store and cook a meal together, complete with a few drinks all around. If you want, you can try to find a date, but I don't think it's completely necessary. It might even make you feel worse because the date might be a dud and you'll be surrounded by happy couples (or at least seemingly happy couples). I agree with the "buy yourself something nice" as well, and 1/2 price chocolate is always a plus.
carhill Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Hey, OP, want to put a smile on your face? Spend a few hours at a nursing home putting a smile on the face of those who rarely have much joy in their lives anymore. You'll be smiling when you're done and forget all about the lack of a woman in your life. IMO, assign that (no woman on V-day) the value it deserves
sinkerswim Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 My breakup is so fresh...It will be less than 2 weeks that we are split when Valentines Day hits.. I DREAD IT. He was always wonderful to me on V-day. Treated me so well..and now I gotta be all alone again without him. Last year, when living together.. I even made him a Valentines Day cake. ANYWAY.. for this year I am probably going over my best friends house and she is gonna read my tarot cards and she is baking BLUE cupcakes. she is happily married..but never been a big Valentines day person. So..thats what I have to do to cope.
openbook08 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 im soooooooo not a sporting kind of person BUT guess what?? my friends are taking me to a big sporting event on feb14th!! and i.................cant wait!! yippee. this is all about the year of yes & puttin me first!! so im doin somethin ive never done before.
sedgwick Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Heh, yeah, you really can't beat being surrounded by sweaty bellydancers on Valentine's Day, can ya? I guess I'm pretty lucky in that I'm surrounded by half-naked women several nights a week. I see lots of boobs.
PinkToes Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Carhill, that's genious! Imagine going to a nursing home and visiting either the men or women with a card and a few flowers, and spending a little time listening to their stories about Valentine's Days past. What a beautiful thing that could be. I'm sold. Thanks!
kizik Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 OP, it's just another day. If your ex is with someone new, don't worry - everyone breaks up. Watch movies, get high. Do fun sh*t on your own and learn to love your own company.
smile_through_tears Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I'm going out with my friends exactly I view it as it is just a day...
haley121 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I'm actually going with a group of people to a nursing home the afternoon of V-day this year. I've never done it but I'm pretty excited
Bluebird In My Heart Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 OP, it's just another day. If your ex is with someone new, don't worry - everyone breaks up. Watch movies, get high. Do fun sh*t on your own and learn to love your own company. Lol! I agree with everyone else - it's just another day. I would kinda do a little mental jujitsu, though. For me, it's staying away from any reminders that it's V-Day, as much as possible. Including no being around any cheesy violin-and-piano music. That lame stuff gets me everytime!
Bluebird In My Heart Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 You could be sitting around wondering what the guy who your misses cheated on you with is giving her for V-Day.:mad::mad::mad: Possibly, an STD. The gift that keeps on giving? Not trying to make light of your situation. I'm just thinking it might be poetic justice. *hugs*
