Just curious if this is normal. Find it hard to believe it's common among the fair of the sexes...In fact it sounds gross to me. I'm not sure why one would wait so long in between washing their hair. Maybe it has something to do with having their hair straightened. IDK. I feel like a bum if I miss one day. I can't imagine going a week. Wouldn't getting a wiff of your SO's stinky, greasy smelling hair be a deal breaker. Would be for me.

HA. Youre funny.

Honestly though, I've had many a stylists tell me to only wash it once or twice a week. Why? Because my hair is naturally very coarse and dry. Shampooing your hair strips it of all its natural oils and therefore dries it out even more. I'd say once a week is a bit of a stretch but I know plenty of African American women who go for longer for the reasons mentioned above. As long as she is showering elsewhere every day I can't imagine an overwhelming stink...but then again I can't speak from experience cuz I still wash mine every other day.

Clearly you have no African American friends. Which is very common for their culture to go days, weeks, or even months with out washing their hair.

if my daughter washed her hair more then once a week it measure about 3' across. She has a lot of hair and it is really really thick.

I see. So some people (women) do so for cultural reasons and others due to hair type. I think the person I was using in my example limits washing because of the starightening that is done, so washing it frequently would turn it from being pin straight to looking like a head full of pubes. Hmm, I know some cultures don't bath or shower very frequently, it's hard to imagine not having been raised that way. Then again, people from said cultures would surely shake their heads at some of the social norms found here.

I used to think like Sid3... but when you like or love a person that is something you either learn to adapt to or just tell the person the truth which I doubt would happen. I had roommates and I used to hate it, but after that I met someone and I learned to appreciate the person and the smell didn't bother me after that... it's up to you... :)

wow. um. never really gave it a thought, but i guess i'd be really turned off by that.

I lived with an AA lady, who had cornrows, because of this she could shower and the shampoo would penetrate. How dreds work, I haven't a clue. Incidentally, why is the hair on a white person's head completely different than the hair on their crotch. My lady's looked the same, even after close (Very close) inspection.

Jessica Simpson and her stylist talk about her washing her hair once a month!

I wash my hair once every 3-4 days... It looks better the longer I go- and my hair is really long.

I use a special hair powder to absorb oil- and it smells like peppermint. When it comes to bathing- I do it 3-4 times a day. I have never had smelly hair- but that is because I use the hair powder.

I hate stink-head, but I'm vain with my hair. If I washed it, blow dried it and used the straightener everyday...I'd kill my hair.

The powder takes away the oil- I smell awesome- and my hair stays stink-free and grows healthier.

Straightening irons kill you hair. It's much more healthy to NOT wash it, dry it, and use other damaging heating products on it daily. I've gone a week without washing it.... But the peppermint powder is a god send.

You'd never walk by me and say "wow that girl has stink head.

You'd be more apt to talk by me and say "hmm, that girl is a bitch, but her hair sure looks good and she smells purdeeeee".

Where did you get this powder, D-lish? I'm growing my hair out to my waist--and would love a way to stretch out my washes. I currently wash every other day (sometimes I wash my scalp only, avoiding getting the ends wet).

It's true, except for the oiliest hair types washing daily is really not good for your hair. Weekly is actually what is recommended for dry hair types.

Guys may want to wash more often than that because they mainly have short hair and that gets greasy looking pretty quickly and can't be put up.

Wow.. I never even thought of that one..

How would I know when he washed his hair? Why should I care? as long as he is clean.. who cares if he washes his hair once a week or 5 times a day.. geeeezzz...

A week is disgusting. I'm big on personal hygiene. I have one to two showers a day, holding back on washing my hair to every second day tops, since I also have very long hair but mine is coloured, so I have to worry about breakage. This cuts back to once a day during the hot weather, since I usually can't stand it. It also means I have to deep condition the length past my head to the ends, every first to second wash with melted shea butter, otherwise it would probably break off.

Btw, if you have fine, thin or normal hair, DON'T use shea butter. It will look like a greasy, stringy, limp mass. Only do it if you have really thick hair.

Edit - I would never date a man who doesn't have excellent personal hygiene. You can easily tell by smell and look.

Sid, I wash mine about twice a week. I've dated several girls with dreads, which rarely gets wash (read every month or so).
