northstar1 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Hello there Most of my posts have been under "Coping" as I navigated the healing after a painful breakup last year. However, I have met someone new, and have been out 4 times and we've had a great time so far - good chemistry, conversation etc. My question is, it's still very new and early, but do I do anything with Valentines day coming up next week?
amaysngrace Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I would. I wouldn't do anything elaborate or anything. Maybe bake him cookies or get him a card or probably both? But yes definitely do something if you have feelings for him. You can't ignore the day.
Geishawhelk Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Yes. Don't go overboard and buy three dozen roses and a huge 3 x 4 foot valentine's card, delivered by a violin ensemble.... Just ask her out to dinner, take her to a nice restaurant, and maybe just get her a little bit of innocent jewellery, like a silver chain bracelet or a pendant. nothing too much, but something that says "I like you a lot". Heck, I'm sorry, are you a gal or a guy - !?
prettybaby Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 This seems to be tricky for most people in that situation. I think a card is the best. That's probably what I'm going to do myself. Then of course, there will be the whole headache of "what's appropriate to write" LOL
amaysngrace Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Heck, I'm sorry, are you a gal or a guy - !? Oh if you are a guy please don't bake cookies.
Geishawhelk Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 OK, you're a guy! *Phew!* yes, i stick by what i said! Amaysn has to change tack!! Actually, some guys bake really good cookies!
marlena Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 North, I am SO happy for you. By all means, yes. Keep it simple. Roses are always nice or the classic cuddly Teddy Bear.
amaysngrace Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Actually, some guys bake really good cookies! I would be a little creeped out if a guy I barely knew baked me cookies. Buy her candy. We love candy. Oh and since you're a guy don't get her a card. You can avoid that with candy and flowers. I love candy and flowers.

Thanks Marlena, it's been a long road, but finally seeing there can be happiness with someone other than the ex Valentines day is tricky, since it's very new still and you don't want to overwhelm them.

Treasa Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I was going to say edible underwear, since you can both enjoy that, but in light of other responses, I'm going to say take her out to dinner, get her a card, or maybe donate money to a charity that she really likes.
prettybaby Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 or maybe donate money to a charity that she really likes. Call me cold hearted and superficial, but that kind of "gift" wouldn't exactly make my heart skip a beat

Shygirl15 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Yeah, well. I thought it would be wise to ask instead of giving myself these headaches, guess what, he asked for something which costs about $200! $200 people! Anyways, since you guys (OP) are new, go for a simple thing. I like the card suggestion. Or take her out. Infact, why don't you just take her out, and organize for some (red?) flowers to be brought at your table?

Nice ideas, but remember we've only been out a handful of times.........isn't that a bit much too soon?
