sam light Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I'm partial to classic casual slip on shoes (NOT the newer visible twin gore slip-ons with rugged soles that look like laceless hikers). My current pair has served me well for ten years (time to replace), before that I had the same exact style for several years till I stepped in non-cured cement. I'm curious to hear what kind of casual shoe women like to see a man wearing. (I'm pushing 50) Boots, hikers, sneaks, tie-ons, slip ons, velcro strap, buckle strap.
PinkKittyKat Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Hahaha I love this question. Maybe you could post a link of the kid you are wearing? My brain is giving me loafers. There isn't too much I'm not "cool" with shoe-wise. Men have it sort of easy. Everyone is different, but my short list of no-no's is: -Anything with velcro -Thongs or Sandals (especially socks and sandals) -Wellingtons when it isn't raining -Trainers (any sort of nike-ish running shoe worn as fashion ie. NOT when jogging) Yeah that's pretty much it. Lace-up dess shoes, sneakers and skater shoes, casual or dressy slip ons(what my bf wears), hiking boots... anything else is cool.
Trialbyfire Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Cole Haan has a wonderful line up of casual and dress shoes for men.
curiousnycgirl Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I prefer the classics - tassle loafers and the like.
laRubiaBonita Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 i am a flip flop gal myself...... or birkenstock type sandals..... and well worn trail running shoes
Trialbyfire Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 sam, you're going to have to pick the style that suits YOU best. Not every man can wear every style. If they have very large feet or wide feet, bulky shoes will make them look disproportionate. It also depends on your personal style of dressing. Some look good in more casual, others look better in pressed and tailored. The shoes should correspond with the same look. Now you know why women have shoes upon shoes. We like to get the right look for the moment!
laRubiaBonita Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 just no socks with sandals! and no white socks with pants. follow those two rules and you should be fine.
Prodigal Princess Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 or birkenstock type sandals..... No self respecting Aussie man would be caught dead in those jesus sandals.
Trialbyfire Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 No self respecting Aussie man would be caught dead in those jesus sandals. I hope you don't mind if I generisize your post!
laRubiaBonita Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 No self respecting Aussie man would be caught dead in those jesus sandals. i love mine... i have had the same pair for 15 years.... beat that jeebus!
Prodigal Princess Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I hope you don't mind if I generisize your post! Going by the amount of yanks that wear them while on holidays in Oz, I thought they must be de rigueur over there. It's baffling to us. They stick out like a turd in a punch bowl.

No offense to anyone but they're not the most attractive footwear around. I'm sure they're comfortable. They certainly look comfortable.

They stick out like a turd in a punch bowl. Hahahahah I love you! Turd in a punchbowl!!! And yes, those birkenstock sandals definitely lower my libido when I see a man wearing them. For one thing I don't think feet are ever sexy, much less a man's feet. That's my own personal foible, but those sandals are so damn unfashionable.
Prodigal Princess Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 No offense to anyone but they're not the most attractive footwear around. I'm sure they're comfortable. They certainly look comfortable. Crocs, apparently, are comfortable too. That does not mean that they should be worn. They rape my eyes.
PinkKittyKat Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Crocs, apparently, are comfortable too. That does not mean that they should be worn. They rape my eyes. OH LORD. I forgot to add that to my list as I forgot some people actually consider those acceptably wearable. I gave the OP more credit than that as he seems to be a cool guy.

Haha...IMO, can't stand those things either. I don't recall any gardening needs, while walking around town! The perfect accessorizing purse would be a watering can, with a mini shovel as an eating utensil.

That is the epitome of wrongness.

No offense to anyone but they're not the most attractive footwear around. I'm sure they're comfortable. They certainly look comfortable. Birkenstock is all about comfort. I have two pairs, they are my indoor shoes/slippers. They need to be broken in, but once that is done, the footbed will adapt to your feet which makes them very comfortable. In Germany, many (most) doctors and nurses wear them at work (hospitals, practises).

I'm off to check out Cole Haan. Trial by Fire is right about the variables involved. Life is so complex
Geishawhelk Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I have it on good authority that a chap in this here forum has a penchant for thigh-length scarlet patent-leather 7" stiletto boots, with black thong side lacings.... but how he ever found a pair to fit him, is beyond me.
anne1707 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 i love mine... i have had the same pair for 15 years.... beat that jeebus! 15 years? Must be a bit cheesy by now
