So, today as I'm walking away from class, a friend of mine hollers at me and wanted to say hi. Since I wasn't in a hurry I sat down and was chatting with her for a while. To my left is this cute blond doing what appeared to be homework.

I'm talking with my friend as she's waiting for a classmate to arrive so she can borrow a book from him. He arrives and we start talking. My friend and her classmate are chatting about stuff and I look over to the blond and ask her what she's working on. Linear algebra. I give a chuckle and she asks me if I know anything about it. I do not. She's describing how she wished she could figure it out, as it is giving her problems (no pun intended). I tell her the best way to learn something is to teach it to someone (hoping she'd ask if I wanted to "learn"-she didn't).

Anyways, I've been talking with her for a bit and my friend and her classmate are heading off to do their homework, and they leave me there with the blond girl. She's cute, friendly and seems to be enjoying the talking.

We start talking about our school, our sibling's schools etc. Her brother goes to school in my hometown at a college less than a stone's throw from my house, so there is something to talk about.

More talk.

More talk.

Anyways, its about 7:15 and I realized that I had to catch a bus at 7:16, but its too late, by the time she gets done talking, its 7:17. So, I decided I had to go to the computer lab to do some homework.

Question is, after all of that talk, was she "primed" for me to ask her for her number? I got part way down the hall and turned around and headed back to the room she was in and said I'd invite her to a party or something. I asked her for her number and she gave me it. Should I have asked her before I left the room?

Now that I have her number, how long do I go until I can text her/call her and maybe ask her out to coffee instead of a party? It'd be a sport's team party, and she knows the sister of one of my old teammates, so its not like I'm some random guy (but I am), but I at least have some sort of credibility as I know someone she knows.

Would it be weird to say in a text, "Hey, how'd your math go? Wanna get coffee? I enjoyed talking to you." What would be appropriate for this situation as I only know her from this evening's meeting.

She knows my name I know hers, we did that whole thing. Needless to say, I feel pretty good as I made fast work of that whole situation, I just need to know how to follow it up. I haven't actually pursued any girls for over 3 years due to an ex girlfriend, so I'm breaking the rust free.

Thanks for the help!:bunny: [GLOAT]This is the second number this week!:D[/GLOAT]

I think you're swinging and on a roll. Just don't look too eager and needy....;)

Why dwell on the shouldas? You went back - that took guts enough - I'm sure she admired it.

How about while you're still fresh in her recall? I'd say in the next day or two.

I don't see any reason why not to! I guess I will. I'm just kinda nervous as to what to talk about! Also, how to re-approach her was making it hard to decide what to do.

Even though I walked away the first time, you think that going back made an impression/made her give me her number? It wasn't all that hard, but I've done this sort of thing a million times, and never turned around and gone back. One of my co-workers told me the answer will ALWAYS be "NO" if I don't ask. I guess I took that to heart!

Yep! Automatic no unless you ask, I like that and I've heard that same advice many times. Good for you. The only thing I would have to say is that I would call first rather than sending a text message. A text is just a little TOO informal IMO. Text after the first date. Call her and get some voice contact in there.

Anyone else agree with that one? Also wait at least 24 hours, but not more than 48... stupid rule but it seems fairly accurate.
