pelanchito Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 HI! I do not know what to do...I met a guy during the holidyas whilst skiing very far away form myhome, and we ended up spending 2 nights together, it was great, he was really nice, except, i think he is in terrible debt and has money issues (we stayed in my hotel) and he couldn't even pay for our meal that noght, we paid half and half, okl I thought never mind Im leaving tomorrow. So next day I leave and he stays in the room, and now I have been charged by the hotel some 50 usd for extras, and the hotel says their inibar extras and doesnt want to giove me the itemised bill. Iknow 50 bucks is not a lot of money bit thats not the issue the issue is htat he must a taken everything in site, for hte whole bill of minibar things for my entire weeks stay was 70...and I find that really awful, that he took advantage and just y know took everyhting in site, then again maybe he is really down on his luck, but I feel I should say soemthing, especially because we have kept in touch and he asked me to come back and see him...but it could also be that the hotel, since it was small took advantage of the situation and charged me (strange they dont want to itemize my bill) and he didnt take anything...but I am furious becuae I know yeah its probably him, how cheap and absurd, what to do??
Geishawhelk Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 First, advise the Hotel that unless they permit you to have an itemised bill, you will not be paying anything at all, and that you have contacted your lawyer/solicitor, because to send you a bill so long after your stay is unreasonable. They must have had people staying in the room since your departure, therefore there is no proof that the use and consumption is down to you. Secondly, contact him and ask him: "I can't remember whether you actually offered to pay me for the stuff out of the mini-bar.... could you remind me what you had?" Thirdly: Please learn to punctuate. No punctuation makes reading your post very difficult. Thanks, and good luck.
Geishawhelk Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009  I see he took your periods with him too demand them back dump that hero find yourself a zero I see red flags everywhere but I dont know mary had a little lamb Annoying isn't it? I rest my case!!
Author pelanchito Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 SO SORRY about the punctuation, and that the thread became about that instead of the issue! Thanks for your quick replys, though. You are right, I will kindly ask him about the mini bar consumption, but that is a definite red flag, isn't it? But am I not overreacting, though? I mean I would have never done the same thing and if I'd taken anything I would have paid for it in cash then and there, but...no now that is has been written down it is sad and ridiculous to read...what a loser...
Geishawhelk Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I see you got the punctuation back, at least!! Deal with the Hotel as I suggested. They have to provide an itemised bill for the contents, and proof that you took it. if thyy have had people staying in the room since, and a passage of time has passed, my guess is they've left it too long and they're going to have to suck up the loss. But ask a lawyer, or take legal advice just in case...... Did you pay by CC? Careful that they don't dig up your payment details and try to put it through without your consent..... Keep everything in writing. Watch your statement.
carhill Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 OP, that guy was a hook-up; that's it. Hope you enjoyed the slopes BTW, the best way to handle the mini-bar is the way you handle a hotel phone. The first thing I do upon arrival is unplug the phones and have the hotel empty the mini-bar and/or lock it. Then I treat them like the venomous serpents they are
Author pelanchito Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Yeah, should have locked up that minibar, except you know, who DOES that???? He took 2 apple juices, 2 diet cokes, 2 beers and a can of Pringles, I mean, how tacky is that? At least other hook ups pay for their own way, I mean he stayed in MY hotel for 2 days, el cheapo, oh never mind, still like him though, of course, even more, good thing he's all the way in Canada, LOSER...(sorry I had to vent)
Author pelanchito Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 And I quote, literally (he´s not a native English speaker, so give him a grammar break, please): "-i took a apple juice and a pringles chips only. I know the room girl came buy and told me that you left already and they ask me to leave so they can clean the room. maybe they took some drink. I will go see for you and let you know. I just hope you dont think that i drink alcool in the bar and try to make you pay for it. Keep in touch. Try to get the list and let them know that your friend will pass to see with them about this unfair bill. bye. Such bull****. sorry for you. I know we had a couple corona during the night when watching tv..." I thought it was at least brave of him to own up to it, he could have blocked me in his email, I could've never heard from him again...but the Hotel!!!! It was a really expensive boutique hotel at that!!! I mean the room wa paid for until 11, it was a double room , where the hell do they get off asking a guest to leave??? So what do u think, should I even answer his email? Or is it a no brainer? Had great chemistry though, been a while since this kind of chemsitry, the guys I date are very different...what woudld anyone do?
Miss Ting Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Seriously...too many grammatical and spelling errors...reading it was painful. I think I was able to decode some of your message, however...ask him about it. The hotel didn't take advantage of you...I'm sure they weren't aware of your situation...give me a break!
carhill Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Yeah, good thing she didn't ask for a late checkout for her friend. Who knows what he'd have done to the room service bill OP, bad experience. Guy was a loser and probably lies through his teeth. If you checked-out at the front desk, as the room owner, they'd close the folio and notify housekeeping to clean the room and inventory the mini-bar. The hotel followed their procedures, at least in my extensive experience as a traveler. Personally, I've found housekeeping to be very honest, especially at named chains or upscale hotels. There's just too big of a risk to their job and they need that job.
bean1 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Delete his email, delete his phone number, chalk it up to experience and start planning your next vacation! I'm sure a lot of people do things 'naughty' on vacation such as take extra stuff from a minibar, after all, they don't expect to see or hear from you ever again! Chalk up the chemistry to "the moment" and start meeting guys locally. I wouldn't expect anything out of this.
