DSM-IV Tom Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 My one weakness, as I'm sure it's many of yours as well. They come from nowhere, like cancer, and you wake up more depressed than you even remembered how to be. We need someone who knows all about Lucid dreaming. That way we don't have these dreams anymore about our ex's. Seriously, hadn't had a dream about her really for a long time. Then bam, last night was nonstop dreams of her in different situations. Woke up today feelin sick. This **** is weak. I think I'm gunna make up a rhyme right now about this to get this out of my head. Nothin worse than havin a nightmare Other than wakin up and realizin it's still there How did we end up in the wake of the impossible Didn't these ex's promise it all Tell us not to worry about this at all Tell us we'd never be alone But here we are, enforcin NC, control urges to use the phone What happened to their promise we'd be together forever My ex told me "Thomas, a break up is somethin you don't have to worry bout, ever" Well, it feels like I got punched, to my chest a blast Because I'm in the wake of her "Forever" bein only a reference to the past I never knew forever would be so short, how could I be so thick To believe this chick, s**t, but the balls in my court, my final trick Was enforcin NC, and disappearin quick Lol just wrote a freestyle for the hell of it
alwayssme Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 ahhh...i like..i like...lol i wrote so many poems regarding my situation too....they come out good when the word come from the heart...esp. in hurting times... and about dreams....i used to dream of him coming back to me all the time (also because when we'd break up b4 he would show up at my door but thats a whole diff story)...so i would dream he would do that...or i would dream he called only to wake up to a phone with no calls and alone........to say it was painful is a big understatement.......lol....but now i dont have dreams like that anymore, i did once and i woke up feeling like he had just broken up with me....then the day went on, it got better.
LostLamb Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I know how you feel. I spent last night dreaming about my ex. I can't believe how much I miss him , he was my whole life and the first friend I had made in years. I have lost so much. I would like to go back to having normal dreams about snakes and random people!
Geishawhelk Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Ok people, understand this. Your subconscious is an extension of your ego. People think that the subconscious is there as a self-protection device, but this - as is demonstrated here - is BS. Your Ego is being assaulted (during waking hours) by your efforts to dismiss your ex-from your mind. But what you're all not doing is dealing with it. You're suppressing. And where, therefore, is all this supressed emotion being stored, lodged, tucked away? In your Subconscious. And what does you subconscious do at night? it goes to the movies. Pass the popcorn.....
LostLamb Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I think about my ex all the time so was hoping sleep would bring respite of some kind. I hope things will improve once my counselling starts because for the first time in my life , I refuse to ignore my problems and bury the pain.
Trialbyfire Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 IMO, dreams are a way to process the daily data dump from the subconscious to the conscious mind. I wouldn't mess with it. Instead address the underlying issues. As an example, if you're having recurring nightmares about shark attacks, better to find out what's causing these nightmares, rather than try to stop the dreams or find a way to manipulate your dreams so you harpoon the sharks. IMO dream controlling is a frightening thing. Don't mess with your psychy without knowing what's causing it.
wuggle Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 IMO dream controlling is a frightening thing. Don't mess with your psychy without knowing what's causing it. Seconded. When I was a teenager I did just that and actually managed to have one or two lucid dreams (didn't last long though). Then had years of 'night terrors' (Violent jolts, like massive shos of electricty etc) - dont mess with your dreams, just watch and learn.
famke Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I dont think theres much to do about it. yeah you could do the whole 'lucid dreaming' thing. but personally I wouldnt. I think you should just let your mind run free at night. let dreams come to you.. dont resist them. maybe you have those nightmares because of thoughts/things you try to resist through the day, and thats not wrong. but you know, those thoughts have to come out one way or another. I think. try to think not much about those nightmares in the morning, then you wont even remember them in a couple of hours.. at least thats how it works for me. good luck dude.
sunshinegirl Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 My counselor is big into talking about any dreams I have. I am not quite as enthusiastic as she is about it, but I do believe her when she says dreams are our subconscious working things out. I also think that because I have spent so many waking hours processing my last breakup, that I don't actually have that many dreams about him.
sinkerswim Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I know..dreams suck Tom... I am still living here until the end of the month..and when I dream all is well..I wake up to the nightmare that is happening in my life. It is sooo sad. I dont want to be left alone. Not at this age..not WITHOUT HIM. I never dreamed my journey in life would continue without him. I can hardly stand the thoughts of it.
kizik Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 My one weakness I am serving slices of humble pie if anyone here wants one.
motive2002 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 http://www.lucidity.com/ There are proven techniques to assist in lucid dreaming. I've read through Laberge's books and there are exercises you can do to help become aware in your dreams. Having a lucid dream is like unlocking a whole other world, but it takes quite a bit of practice.. and also a pretty regular sleeping cycle. I got into this a few years back and was really trying to do all my exercises. Keeping dream journals, watching for dream signs etc. etc. I did manage to have a few lucid dreams, and they were pretty intense. My problem nowadays is that I never get enough sleep to really get in the exercises properly. It's a fascinating phenomenon, and fairly well studied. Good luck.
alwayssme Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 after going on and on about how i dont dream about him anymore...i just had a dream about him...like i was being nice to him and he was just being cold & distant...and like i saw him having dinner at the restaurant we always went to with some girl...... amazing dream...lol
Peter_pan Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 hmm i think i hav had many lucid dreams im not sure? is it like night terror's?
underpants Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Lucid dreaming is when you realize during the dream that you are actually asleep. Within those moments of consciousness within the subconscious you can manipulate the events of the dream. I find it cool as hell and I have harpooned an ex or two in the past. I agree that many images we see are extensions of our conscious stress that gets insufficient thought during waking hours and gets revisited when we relax. If you can get into a lucid state then forget the ex and go flying or something. Much more fun.
Peter_pan Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 oh cool thats awesome, i think ive done that before, i was flying a helicopter with my mind, was totally awesome lol
Author DSM-IV Tom Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 Glad to hear the way all of you feel. Btw kizik as usual you have cracked me up. Much love
