mr.dream merchant Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 My GF is currently dieting so alot of foods are off limits. She mentioned to me that on Valentine's Day she wants a chocolate covered oreo, just one, from this place she loves. Now I was thinking all of the possibilities and I kind of had my sights set on this. So let me know what you females out there think =) I'm going print a small photo of my GF and I and then take it to the Chocolate Shop. I'm going to set up an arrangement for them to put the picture in the Chocolate Covered Oreo and hold it. Then on Valentine's Day I'm going to swing her by there and just act like I'm buying a regular old Chocolate Covered Oreo cookie. The lady who works there, obviously in on everything, is going to give me the one I custom made. After we leave the store she eats it so I'm going to wait for her surprise. I'm kind of torn. Should I do the picture thing or just have a single Chocolate Covered Oreo dressed up all pretty and wrapped for her then take her there on Valentine's Day and receive that? I'm also taking her out to dinner that night and I've already booked a suite for one night on the beach. Lemme know what you ladies think.
prettybaby Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 So basically, she'll be biting in her oreo and bump her teeth into a picture? I'm not sure I understood this right.
itgirlragdoll Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 So basically, she'll be biting in her oreo and bump her teeth into a picture? I'm not sure I understood this right. Yeah, I gathered about the same thing...you're putting a picture of her inside an oreo? So she can eat an oreo version of herself? Uh.......?
Author mr.dream merchant Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Well the sentimental value behind it was supposed to be that for the longest time she's been wanting a picture of the two of us, especially the one I was going to use. Second is that she loves the oreos. I'm going to be there when she eats it, I'm not gonna let her devour the cookie. I think I'm going to have her open the cookie to lick all the stuffing first but when she goes to do it she sees the picture there. Its not supposed to be a grand plan or anything, just something small and thoughtful for Valentine's Day.
amaysngrace Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Make that three. I don't understand either.
amaysngrace Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Wouldn't the picture get grease spots on it? Or chocolate? I would frame the picture in a heart and give the cookie separately.
Author mr.dream merchant Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 The picture is of us kissing. she only has it on her phone but she's been wanting a physical copy for the longest to place in her room. It's just going to be a small maybe a bit smaller than wallet sized photo of us kissing.
Author mr.dream merchant Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Wouldn't the picture get grease spots on it? Or chocolate? I would frame the picture in a heart and give the cookie separately. I thought of that but she finds heart frames kind of cheesy and played out.
itgirlragdoll Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Sorry but...seems like an awful lot of planning for a chocolate-covered oreo. Maybe if it was a cake or something but...I dunno. Why not just put the picture in a card?
prettybaby Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Sounds messy though. Does the oreo come in a little box? If so, you could arrange for them to get a box ready with the picture in the bottom (it could even be discretely hidden in a little envelope with a card or whatever) and then you go pick up the oreo with her and have them wrap it in your box; which she won't realize. Then when she opens it and gets the oreo out: bam. I don't know. I'm not a fan of stuff in food lol but she might like it, who knows.
amaysngrace Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I thought of that but she finds heart frames kind of cheesy and played out. I think she'd like it less to eat a picture.
prettybaby Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 BTW are we talking about a regular sized oreo? That would look slightly ridiculous come to think of it.
Author mr.dream merchant Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 BTW are we talking about a regular sized oreo? That would look slightly ridiculous come to think of it. yeah its a regular sized oreo covered in chocolate. I wanted to a small photo, I gotta see how small they print them though. I'm not going to let her bite into the picture lmao...I'm going to make sure she gets the pictures out before eating the oreo.
melodymatters Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I'm with pretty baby ( and the other gals !) I was thinking the same thing about making the picture a surprise within the bag or box, but not in the cookie !
openbook08 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 i love the idea! i think its fab... just fine tune the few details with the foto issue but i say go for it! if she finds the heart foto frame thing played out i think she'll like this , something different with thought behind it! cool
The Collector Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Just get them to put some icing on the top in the shape of a heart.
Trialbyfire Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Some bakeries can superimpose the image on an edible candy slab, on top of the cookie or cake. It's up to you what you want to do. I think a heart-shaped oreo cookie and all the things you've planned, are more than enough. It's really sweet!
MindoverMatter Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 If she wanted to have the picture to put it in her room, the tiny oreo sized version will look ridiculously small. Sorry, the idea is lovely, but it's not practical. If she doesn't like heart frames, maybe you could get her a regular frame, something that suits her style, with the picture. If you're unsure on what is her style, find out where she bought her furniture. Most furniture stores also have little items (like frames and mirrors) that fit well with the main pieces. And the oreo...have it put in a little box, maybe have them write something in chocolate over it and hand it to her.
Author mr.dream merchant Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 These are all really great ideas. Wow, thanks a bunch! Hmmm I think I'm not going to go for the picture in the oreo but maybe inside of the bag they place it in. I just want it to be a surprise.
dashing daisy Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 That's a very sweet and thoughtful idea, but I'm glad you were able to switch it around a bit to make it work better. I think having them make her a chocolate covered oreo is a good idea. Maybe you could get that in a little box, and then frame the photo she liked and put them in the gift bag together. That way she gets both, but she doesn't have to eat around a photo.
mika Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 The picture is of us kissing. she only has it on her phone but she's been wanting a physical copy for the longest to place in her room. It's just going to be a small maybe a bit smaller than wallet sized photo of us kissing. I think if she wants the photo to put in her room, she probably would want it bigger than the size of an oreo. Plus, if you have to stop her before she eats the oreo it isn't like she is really finding it because you would have to say something like... 'wait! before you eat it, look inside.' I think a photo in a frame already in the box brforehand is sweet because then she knows you thought of that before hand and went out of your way to put it together. an oreo sized picture would be too small to display in her room. I think atleast a 4x6 would be best. Its a good idea, but a photo in something to be eaten may not be the best. She will be super happy that you thought to get the photo printed for her at all!
movingonandon Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Ohh... that is all very sweet, and I admire being willing to put all that effort in... But somehow this only reminds me why I hate this day so much . Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy, cheesy crap. A marketing ploy to peddle chocolates, restaurants and flowers at inflated prices. As somebody said on another forum, just as a dress code takes some of the fun and pride out of dressing well, showing love for people when you're socially obligated to seems less meaningful than doing it spontaneously when you aren't. I think I'll make my girlfriend a card commemorating the 1929 Valentine's day mob masacre in Chicago instead . Actually, I'll totally do it - she's the stereotypical girly girl, so that might be THE test for out comparability .
prettybaby Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 ^^ no offense, but OP was asking for opinions about his gift, not opinions about the whole V-Day concept. If you hate it so much, fine. But no need to bring negativity into somebody's sweet and thoughtful gift idea.
2sure Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 No, look, that isnt going to work. Take her to dinner as planned. Ask the manager if you can bring in your own dessert because it is a special occasion. When deesert is brought out she will be thrilled that it is her Oreo, especially since it isnt something they offer. Get a 5x7 of the picture, sign it with something sweet right on the front corner, frame it and wrap it up to give her during dessert. Simple, thoughtful, and romantic. Cannot fail.

But no need to bring negativity into somebody's sweet and thoughtful gift idea. Well, you're right, kinda. The intent is sweet, no doubt, but the gift idea as such suxx, simply because it is so blatantly influenced by the V-day concept overall and the accompanying cliches... But then again, I'm not a girl, so he should probably discount any non-girl opinions anyway.
