frannie Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I don't know about elsewhere, but in the UK shared custody is not only not the norm (although it's becoming more common), it's not necessarily practical (from a financial point of view as well as moving the kids around from house to house during the week), nor is it, arguably, in the children's best interest. Which is why normally, children stay primarily in one home with one parent, with the other having reduced hours of access. What is possible, and what is usual, and practical are often very different things. Besides which, if the parents are separated/divorced, BOTH parents get to see less of their children, purely because they are obviously going to be seeing them at separate times. So, whether custody is joint, or not, a father (and mother, to an extent) will be seeing less of their children.
