does anyone actually believe in astrology / sun sign compatability .. I personally think it's mostly BS

Posted

It is ALL b.s. Some people will disagree with me. Unfortunately for them, there has never been any empirical data to support a connection between the stars and the path your life takes, with whom you're compatible, etc.

Think about how anthropocentric it is for a moment: The "position" of the stars in astrology is completely based on how they appear to us from Earth. The universe is a big place. There are events and objects much closer to you physically that have far greater influence over your life than the stars which happen to be visible from here.

(I might add that what is seen from Earth is already old news, given the time it takes for a star's light to reach us.)

Finally, why would you want to rule out a percent of the datable population based on their birthdays?

Use your head and think critically about whether someone is compatible with you. Similar interests, mutual physical attraction, emotional maturity...these criteria should influence your judgment, NOT a pseudoscience which was debunked long ago.

4 years and still going strong, and we're astrologically incompatible.

I think it's total BS. But at the same time I have always disliked gemini men. the ones I've been involved with all shared the same negative traits, I don't know if that's a coincidence or not.

I think its BS too. What Sam said.

Another vote for total silliness....

What were the negative traits, allina?

They were moody, not as mentally stable as I need a man to be. It was always a roller coaster of them being fine and happy then depressed for no reason.

Interesting. The Gemini guys I've known have been incredibly two-faced. They totally live up to their sign of The Twins! You never know which "twin" you're going to be dealing with next. They're always intelligent, though. Which makes them even more dangerous.

I agree about the intelligent part. My gemini ex actually became pretty two faced at the end of our relationship as well. Not in a malicious way really, and I was partially to blame (long story) but he did, hmmm.

While none of these bad gemini examples are based on people I dislike (I'm on very good terms w/ the above mentioned ex), the men just possessed traits I can't deal with in a romantic partner.

For the life of me I can't remember the sign, but I noticed a lot of the same traits in a few guys I dated, not so great traits either. It was either scorpio or virgo.

I think astrology is fun, but there is no way to define a person by their birth date.

That being said, I'm a Taurus (an earth sign) and I supposedly get along with water signs best (Pisces, Cancers, etc). What do you know, almost ALL of my best friends are Pisces and Cancers. Plus, 3/5 of my boyfriends were Pisces, and I've had crushes on a slew of other Pisces, too.

This is probably just coincidence, but very interesting!

I don't really think there is any truth to the stuff. But, I have no problem with people who believe in it. About the only thing I know about this kind of thing is that I'm a libra. I think I learned that from a place setting at a Chinese restaurant.

I believe in it to a degree. I also never base it on just sun signs, you gotta also know the persons venus, mars, moon, mercury, and rising to know if your even sexually, romantically, communicatively, and emotionally connected.

I'll put it out there that I'm a sun/aries, moon/scorpio, venus/pisces, mars/gemini, mercury/aries, and rising/pisces.

If you go to http://www.cafeastrology.com/ you can find out what I'm talking about and you'll realize that the sun signs are not always dead on.

Sun is the mask you wear, but so is the rising too.

But the rising is what they consider usually your true nature.

Moon is about your emotions and how you deal with 'em and why you feel the way you do.

Mars is about sex and passion. The way you handle all that lust.

Venus is about the romantic side of you and explains what you find a turn on for romance.

Mercury is how you communicate and the style you use with people.

If anyone has any questions, just let me know...

This stuff always is a fun read for me-- but I found this website to be scarily accurate! Very cool. I don't know if I believe in it or not per se, but some coincidences are really strange!

----does anyone actually believe in astrology / sun sign compatability .. I personally think it's mostly BS

I do not Believe astrology is mostly BS, I KNOW it 100% BS.

In the moment of your birth, the person that helps your mother to give you birth has more ogf an effect than let us say Mars or Neprune. You ask why? Because even though Mars is unmeasurabely larger than that person, it is very far away and, therefore, produces less of a gravitational and electromagnetic effect on you.

Astrology is a pseudoscience that appeals to a very deep desire buried in the soul of each of us that seeks meaning to our lives in the stars. But, like all other kinds of pseudoscience it caoches itself in terms too generic or vague to be worthy of serious consideration by a thinking person.

What makes relationships work is not the harmoney of the stars in the meadow of heaven billion of years away, but what makes romance works is the harmony of two hearts here on Earth!

I am not taking astrology too seriously, but I enjoy it, I find it amusing and I also actually think it can be **very** useful when dating.

You compare your partner's personality to the supposed personality of his star sign, and by doing so you are forced to focus on his personality.

The moment I think "wow..he is a gemini/leo/pisces/whatever" and I start looking for traits of the star sign in him, I become more aware of indicators of his positive and negative traits. I also put myself in a position where I can notice red flags more easily.

So astrology for me is a funny way to ask myself if the person I am dating might be okay for me.

I just think there is irony with what you said in reference to your SN on LS, kinda funny actually, cause you talk about how far away planets are and yet your name is fromfaraway, very ironic, don't cha think?

Seems if you're going to look to something external for validation of your compatibility, things like Myers Briggs will be a lot more accurate.

I am pretty sure it's just a coincidence that when I've looked back at my failed relationships, the sun sign compatibility charts said our signs were incompatible.

To a certain degree I do. I am a Capricorn and I'm said to go well with a Virgo. It held true with a couple virgos I new but not xh. Also, Cancer and Cappys are selected as a perfect match and for me that was just plain wrong.... REAL wrong.

Yes, I believe astrology is a great indicator of compatibility; If she believes in it, we won't be compatible.

Hello Vanilla,

Well, not really :)

These are two types of being from far away. Mine is historical; it is in reference of where I am originally from. The other one is physical ,defined by Newton's law of universal gravitation.

But you know what is REALLY ironic? The fact that I am madly in love with vanilla icecream, yet it is vanilla that is picking on me here :lmao:

HA! This one I can sign up to. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I wonder how many women would turn down George Clooney or Brad Pitt because of their signs?

There's a difference. Our signs appear very, very late at night in the middle of space, while theirs appear during prime time on Broadway Ave marquees.
