So its been brought up to my attention that I am physically out of shape and the hollidays are no excuse. I recently jumped on a bench press and did 205 lbs (94 kilos) for 6 reps and decided to time myself for a 1 mile run and finished at 6:36 - I know - weak and slow.

So, I've started a physical fit routine to get myself in top condition. Its a 2-a day program :

AM

Crossfit WOD

www.crossfit.com

PM

Run, swim, cycle or some combination thereof.

I'm planning on doing a triathlon this upcoming spring. Anyone else have any lofty fitness goals?

6:36 is not slow. 205 is not light.

That's what I was thinking, looks like someone was trying to be modest :p

My fitness goal is to run a half marathon this year. My 50 year old father runs full marathons regularly and it puts my 25 year old ass to shame :o

Yes, I see what you mean.

We can train together, if you want.

Over six hours for a one mile run??!! Dude, you are seriously out of shape.

In your condition, running seems too dangerous. Maybe you should try bending your elbows with a few beers, and work up from there.

Deal! Though I think I'd have a hard time running in your sorts of elevation, I hear that really messes with your breathing. I have coastal lungs. I do have some awesome workout music on my ipod though!

I was thinking of doing some cross-training. This time of year anyway. You can't run all the time.

We have some pretty awesome yoga and pilates studios here  I went today after a night of buffalo tofu and Dos Equis, it felt great.

I'm not overweight...5' 8" 150, I think I'm in good shape for 47...

My goals for 2009 are...

To get stronger through weight training...

To gain flexibility through Yoga

To improve my cardio and run a 5K. (I do about 2 1/2 miles on the Eliptical)

To become a 4.0 tennis player

To break 80 on the golf course

Did my morning crossfit, which consisted of a 1-mile quick run (about 6:50), 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats (partitioned in diff rep schemes) and another 1 mile run about 7:00.

This evening I'm going for an interval swim workout.

Where's tanbark? Your workout sounds like BS.

I'm actually suprised you're not criticizing me for not finishing the last mile under 7:00. It was hard.

Here's that 1 miler I mentioned earlier.

AM

I broke up the pullups into reps of 10 - varied the grip from regular pullups, Marine-corps grip (palms facing), alternating grip (one hand forward, one facing), close grip, behind the neck etc.

Pushups were done in sets of 50.

Squats were done in sets of 75.

PM

Swam 5 x 200 meter intervals. Alternating free-style for 50 meters and breast-stroke for 50 meters etc.

That sounds a bit more realistic... but you certainly don't sound unfit.

How much weight are you squatting? I think that's what threw me.

I think you misunderstood what I posted - I did 100 reps total of pullups, 200 reps total of pushups and 300 reps total of squats - partitioned into reps of 10 for pullups, 50 for pushups and 75 for squats - does that make sense?

I did 10 sets of 10 pullups, 4 sets of 50 pushups, 4 sets of 75 squats - all done with bodyweight. Crossfit uses alot of bodyweight resistance.

I do not consider myself in peak condition though. If I can break 6:00 per mile, maintain a 6:45 pace over 3 miles and 7:30 for 6 miles - I would consider that quick.

no, no not really

I do. But it seems that it's better to keep them to myself. I'm the only one who is impressed by me.

What about me? I'm impressed by you.

I did a push-up today! Well, I got half-way, and then I had to take a break. Tomorrow I am determined to go all the way, baby!

I need to do something about my fitness. I don't think I can bench 40 percent of my weight even once. I don't know if I could move 100 pounds, let alone bench it. In other words I'm probably weaker than at least 49 of 50 guys. It is very hard to get started on something that you are so far below average on.

I hope to ride 6,000 miles on my bike this year. Last year I started in March & ended up with 4,273 miles & so far I have 47 miles on this year.....;)

We plan on riding this weekend as well, so I am getting a earlier start for this year....

I have the "down" part of the push-up mastered, but I'm fast discovering that the "up" part is where the real difficulty lies.

New endeavors that are outside of your interests are hard. The only way you can improve in these kinds of things is to get motivated and work at it.

Start off keeping your knees on the ground.
