starzphalling Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Ok so, i'm really lazy and didn't read the rules of the board again cause well...blah..so if this post is not allowed...sorry... ..anywho, we're all here hurting and trying to wade through a sea of crap to get to the shore of sparkling happiness. and i was wondering, what other people on here see as the perfect relationship in terms of tv or a movie couple. the relationship we all strive to have, or thought we had before someone dropped an anvil on our head. I don't know just seems like we needed a fun thread to smile at and think something good for at least a few minutes. i'm putting mine in as Melinda and Jim from Ghost Whisperer. Just because there is no judgement, and they are REALLY there for one another. My goal is to find that relationship, so I guess all these breakups and pain we have to go through are there just to make sure we really get what we want/deserve in the end. at least thats the hope im holding on to, because it makes me feel better than just sitting and pining over someone...at least for the next 5 mins like i said lol.

For those of you who have not. This movie goes through all the cycles of relationships, even the hardest of situations. The end result, a relationship of two people who went through hell and high water to be together. He was persistent and didn't give up the fight. For those of you who haven't seen the movie, I recommend it.

If you watched the show you know how much crap they had to go through to be together. No matter what they never lost faith in one another, trusted, and fought for their love. And that is something we all deserve. That one person that will fight just as hard as we will because they too know its right.

But honestly, they've loved each other, never gave up for what they believed and ended up together not with a perfect relationship because no relationship is perfect but they survived all of the bumps. Also, I forgot their movie names from "P.S. I love you". Grey's Anatomy - Derek and Meredith (don't ask me why... LOL)

Actually, Allie did give up. It was pure coincidence that she saw Noah's picture in the newspaper while trying on her wedding dress when getting married to another guy. It was pretty clear that she had all but forgotten about him and moved on before that happened. I will admit that she made the choice for Noah when they re-connected ...and ended up living 'happily ever after' ...but had she not very coincidentally seen his picture in the paper, she probably would have married the other guy and had 2.5 kids. That's just the way life happens sometimes.

So, she went back to him - I think she gave up because she thought he gave up on her (remember she never received his letters). I wonder what would have happened if she did receive them...
BikerBeagle Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 You make a good point ...I'd forgotten about all of the letters her mother was intercepting, which is an arument that goes against the 'no contact' theme that so many here preach and practice. Without knowing what, exactly, was in those letters though, I guess we'll never determine what the outcome might've been had she recieved them. The whole mulitple letter thing causes me to think "obsessive", "desperate", and "needy" I think your belief that "she thought he gave up on her" is a fallacy, though. There was nothing - that I remember - in the newspaper article (or the plot) stating that he refurbished the house just for her ...this was a dream of his before she met him. It just so happened that he hadn't forgotten about her. I guess I wouldn't want to give anyone any hope that, years from now, their ex is going to come running back into their arms. It very rarely works out that way ...and,when it does, there's only a 3% chance of the the second try working out beyond a year.

(Research it right now. Type "Ideal Love Narcissism" in google). Those relationships will never exist, and your relationships will fail if you try to get them to those points. Except the notebook. That girl was a cheater. They certainly exist. So you can hope for that. But other than that, true love isn't like the movies. Trust me. It just isn't.

Who would want to go back to their ex unless it was a perfect relationship which ended because of things two people could not control?! I do remember something about him saying he would refurnish the house and she told him to promise her he will. Then when she came back, she said something like "It's real nice what you did with the house and all" and he said "Well, I promised". So I think that in the back of his head, he WAS hoping Allie would see it and come back to him. At least, that's what I'd like to believe. Of course, he did it for many reasons but one of them was her too. Emperor: watched that movie. Ugh! The relationship between Benjamin and Daisy was horrible (just my opinion). There was NO base to it IMO. Why were they attracted to each other in the first place? What was so unique about their relationship except that he was becoming younger? DSM: Ideal love doesn't exist. True love does though. I don't even know what ideal love is or means. Is it something you imagined or hope to get? Relationships are complicated things. Ideally, you want to find someone with whom you match up close to perfect. Not many people find it but some do.

If movies and tv were more true to life, it wouldn't be a gazzilion dollar industry. It would be work to watch tv, who wants to watch what they're living. I didn't mean that the relationship that you admire in tv/movies will be something real, but rather it gives you something to strive for in the way they interact as a couple. If only life were like the movies, this board would be pretty darn empty.
