MWH Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Bzzzzzt! Wrong answer! The opposite of love is not hate; the opposite of love is indifference. Hatred is a negative energy. I gives total and complete power to the hated and weakens our true spirit. I believe that the very best we can do when we are wronged, betrayed, abused, or otherwise mistreated, is not to turn the other cheek but also to NOT hate them. I believe the very best we can do is to grow towards indifference. To simply not care any more. Someday she just won't matter any more. I long for that day. When that day comes I shall indeed be healed. Thoughts? Peace, MWH
Surfer Dude Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I agree with you. There are many aspects of hate, and one type of hate stems from love that wasn't returned. Have you seen people hating the partner who dumped them, but they manage to get together and hate instantly and miraculously turns into love. I'd also say the opposite of love is fear. Love sets free, shares, forgives, while fear clenches, robs you of your freedom, makes you hate etc. Fear in essence leads to hate. I really like what Yoda said in Star Wars: Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.
Geishawhelk Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 The opposite of Love is Ignorance. Not Ignorance as in "not informed" but Ignorance as in 'not giving a flying Thuck'. Ignorance is what makes them indifferent. Ignorance is what makes them callous. Ignorance is what makes them shallow. Ignorance is what makes them foolish. Ignorance is what keeps them blind. Those who are wise don't hurt others out of hand. Those who are wise do not disregard the Pain of those they've hurt. Those who are wise are able to reason, understand and connect. Those who are wise can speak in ways that construct, not destruct. Those who are wise can see further than their own Ego. Weigh up the difference between the feelings or Anger, Hatred and Resentment, against the feelings of Forgiveness, Peace of Mind and Serenity. Then, Choose.
