krpt Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 Ok.. To start off, I have always had larger calves then most people. They are completely not proportional to my body. Here are the stats Left Calve 17.5 Inches Left Ankle 12 Inches Right Calve 17 Inches Rigth Ankle 12 Inches I have never, ever worked ouy my calve muscles before except for when I play basketball or Football (soccer).. I used to play those two sports everyday for about 6 years, but not anymroe as work load has increased.. I have also started smoking (i know stupid.. quitting slowly.. i'll get there).. I started smoking a year ago and it was 1-2 years ago that I noticed that my calves were going from muscular looking to really flabby and fat.. I can literally pinch 1.5 inches of either CALVE.. and thats just the calve problem.. My ankles are also really big giving the impression that I have elaphant legs.. and yes I HAVE been embarrased before such as when I take a chick home and take of my pants to shower.. they are always like "woah your legs are really fat".. that is exactly what they say.. I am sick and tired of it and want to do something to make me feel better about my legs.. But my ankles aren't that fat.. i can hardly pinch any flesh... I have been sitting ON my legs for years now as a habbit but have finally stopped and Im wondering if that has anything to do with it.. Are there any tips that anyone can give me as to either 1) losing fat in the area of my calves n ankles or 2) toning the muscles so that they at least look nicer n not so disgusting.. Any Help appreciated. Thx Regards krpt
krpt Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 I forgot to add I am 5'11".. a guy and I am not overweight at all.. I weight abt 150-160 lb or 70 kg.. my upper body is quite slim.. HOWEVER.. my arms are a little beefy.. i am thinking that maybe this problem is in genes.. but there still has to be sth i can do abt it, right?
krpt Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 also i am only 15 and still growing so going on a diet to lose that fat would not be very healthy
moimeme Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 Exercise. If you can afford it, see a trainer - preferably one affiliated with a sports rehab facility. You may still grow taller which might change your proportions.
Ryan Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 1) losing fat in the area of my calves n ankles It is not possible (outside of surgery) to remove bodyfat from specific areas of the body. It happens to the body as a whole and we have little control over how it will be distributed. 2) toning the muscles so that they at least look nicer n not so disgusting.. Muscle either grows or it doesn't....there is no means by which you can shape it. For one, stop smoking. That will solve a myriad of health problems, even though it's probably not all that related to this. I don't now how exactly you are pinching your calves...but if you are grabbing the muscle in a relaxed state....it is not going to be rigid. Muscle tissue is not inherently hard. Try your "pinch test" while standing on tiptoes. All in all...given your age, it is premature to consider bodily changes right now. There is too much yet to be determined about your growth patterns. Life's a bitch that way...but you need to wait and see what becomes of your genetics.
krpt Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 ok on tiptoes i can get about an inch.. if that helps.. it almost feels like lose skin coz it jiggles around a lot.. any ideas?
efs276 Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 To KRPT, If you can push on the calf or ankle a while and still have a pit left right afterwards, that's not fat, it's fluid or otherwise called edema. Sounds like the smoking is weakening the right side of your heart, or an inheirited condition, go see an MD and get a complete physical plus MRI of the heart & 12 lead ekg & treadmill test & c-reactive protein blood test & test for juvenile onset diabetes. You are too young to mess around with this if it is edema. Dump the smoking pronto. Tobacco or otherwise. Non tobacco (5 pointed leaves) breaks things down even faster than tobacco.
hi' Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 to everyone hi, I having the same probem as krpt. I have fat ankle. I am a guy. 19 . I know that I won't grow any taller. I am not over weight, about 150lb, please help me.
longlegzs80 Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 To get rid of the fat look, I was told that you should stick to cardio for 30-60 minutes, roughly everyother day or however many times you want to do it throughout the week. But, that will get rid of fat and you will see definition in your muscles. All it is is, you have to dedicate yourself to do cardio for a really long time as I said 30-60minutes and you will notice a difference in your overall body shape within a week or so. Depending on how dedicated you are. I know with myself, I stuck to cardio for afew weeks, and within the first week or so with changing alittle of my diet and sticking to cardio, I was starting to get my body into shape where it looks very good. So, that is my suggestion. Don't get sad over it. Just do something like trying to lose weight to where you see your muscles and things won't be so bad. Hope this helps. SARAH
