So, recently, I posted an ad on Craigslist...just to see what happened.

I've gotten a few replies from some locals and some who are in college with me too. Some looking to date, and one who is just wanting friends as she lost some of hers in "the breakup".

Anyways, I got one that really stood out because:

A. She's from Russia.

B. She's smoking hot.

C. She's coming to the US in two months and seems to be "husband hunting" almost, or so it seems.

D. She's sent me many photos of her and a few of her grandpa, mom and sister.

My dilemma with this Russian girl. How the heck do you tell if she's for "real"? She wrote me TWICE in one night after I replied only once so far.

Here is a small piece of one of the emails she wrote me.

I am going to spend three months

abroad to work in any good place, agency promises to help me because it is only the way I can leave Russia.I will have all documents

to travel in a few days and i will travel to moscow then, from moscow I will travel to you and they ask me about name of the city i am going to work,

if you don't mind to meet me please tell me the name of your nearest international airport! I will book my flight from moscow!

I think it would be so great to meet my love and stay there forever.I know that it is not so easy like I think but I think it is possible that I meat my real love.

I want to love and to be loved I want to build our own happiness, only me and my man there.

I find her attractive, but I've heard of these "scams" and "mail order brides", neither of which I want to take part in...she sounds like she's coming here to get hitched...

Not too sure what to think/do. I can post the entire letter(s) if you'd like.

And for continuity's sake, she did send pics of her and they are all of the same person, whether that's actually her or not is the tough part to discern. She's so frickin hot.

Posted

Hmmm... sounds suspicious. She's probably going to engage you in some sort of online relationship, then suddenly something bad happened and she needs you to send her money for the plane ticket.

Then you reply with Russian accent -- in Soviet Russia, plane flies you!

If you could keep your wits about you, then I don't see anything bad with continuing email communication to see where it leads. Maybe one in a million chance this is a real Russian hottie that wants to bang you.

Hey ask her to send sexy photos of herself. Even if this is a scam, maybe you can get some free nudie pics out of it.

Bro, this is hilarious. She wants to find love, provided he gets her a green card and then she can disappear with no remorse right? Kid me not.

What a golddigger. This stuff is dangerous, stay away from her, it smells like trouble one way or another.

When dating women from 3rd world countries you gotta be careful, you never know whether they want the green card, visa or money. Especially when they are practically throwing themselves at you, like this. Be careful dude. And this could be mafia scam as well, you never know.

Part of it struck me as really...odd. She's really good looking (model material here), yet seems she wants to come here to work. She said she wasn't afraid to work, but looks like her line of work would be the runway.

Here's the last email she sent me:

Hi my dear

I have passed close to the Internet-cafe, and have decided to send you new photos.

I hope you will love them. I with impatience shall wait from you for the letter

Kiss Svetlana

She, with impatience, shall wait for my email. That is in the morning.

She asked whether I abuse alcohol and mistreat women...not the typical questions if you ask me. She was born in a small town in Russia and has to share a room with her younger sister.

Whether or not she's after a green-card, that is hard to tell. A family friend of mine (he's about 65) married a Swedish woman and when her citizenship was finally approved, she jetted. They were married for probably 30-35 years too. S*** happens I guess.

Mafia? Shoot son, we got Ukrainian AND Russian mafias here. Kinda.

I think I can keep the wits about me, and I won't be sending her any money. Its all going towards my Jeep. I love my Jeep, I'm attracted to her from the photos she's sent me. She's blond, 5'6" and 114 pounds with blue eyes. Looks great, but if she's not real, she might as well be a perfect 10.

A friend of mine went through this recently. The woman was supposedly already hired for a job here in Canada, her flight was booked, and he was going to pick her up at the airport, when the story changed entirely. Suddenly she didn't have the right kind of visa, and was going to work in a cafe to raise money to get here. She didn't ask him for any (or at least he hasn't told me about it, and he's broke, so good luck lady), but it was all quite odd. I don't know about the US, but I find it kind of strange that there are all these hot Russian women who are on their way here for work. I think, reading your story, that this is just part of the M.O.

Tell her to give you a call when (if) she gets into the country. Whether the pictures are of her or not is hardly the issue here. And I think it's always safer to shop locally. :)

Posted

Maybe she has another guy on the hook for the K1 and wants to shop while she's here :)

IMO, only way to know for sure is to visit them in their home country. Hire some good independent help and have an adventure.

Posted

Most of these are scams, they send you hot looking photos tell you that they love you and then at some point they will need money to come and visit. When I was on Match I would get 2-3 of these a week, always easy to spot since the women looked like a super model, her writing skills were zero and she immediately wanted to move all of the communication off the site to a yahoo email address.

Sounds like a scam...

Haha... my ex got almost the exact same thing in his work email (he was working at a university and they target places like that). He got an email from a very attractive girl from Russia who was looking for a way over here. It started with her wanting him to let her stay with him when she got here and she sent him some pretty pictures. He agreed. Then lo and behold, something happened and she couldn't afford the ticket and something was wrong with her visa - could he wire her some money and she would pay him back when she could sort out her visa stuff and get to the US? With that she sent some scantily clad pictures, telling him that she found him attractive and hinted at wanting to sleep with him.

So he sent back word saying he could cover X amount (not really intending to - we were both in on this experiment). Wouldn't you know it. That X amount turned into her begging for twice X amount to cover something catastrophic at home. Then she sent some lingerie pictures and told him that she was horny for him and would make a good wife for him.

He agreed, and each time the number went up, and more clothes came off. Eventually he sent her word that if she got herself over here, he would find her a job, find her a place to live with a friend of his, and that she could work to pay off her debts, and that unfortunately he would not be able to give her any money or let her stay with him.

He never heard from her again.

We figured that she was working for someone (the guy who was taking the pictures, no doubt) and he was merely one of many targets who she was hitting up for money. It is a common career over there - sort of like a virtual pimp with a harem of virtual whores who screw you, but not in the way you would like!

:lmao: please don't fall for that crap

Ding Ding Ding!! We have a winner!

How can anyone fall for this? ...seriously, are you that desperate?

Dude, if we were hanging out somewhere, I would have bitch-slapped you for being such a dumass. Hookups on craigslist are an *urban legend*. You are being had.

No, I am not desperate at all. That is why I am leery of this whole thing. Anyways, I'll continue to see what she wants so that way I can say for certain what the whole situation is...

Either way, she's sending me photos and she's really good looking.

Actually, I've been talking to some fellow students at my university through this route. One is even from the same town as me...weird.

I'm not looking to "hookup" with any of these girls, just seeing what can be had. I didn't use my regular email account, I made a new hotmail one and didn't put my name into it.

I've got my ass covered.

Definitely smells of a scam.

If you want to see if her photos are legit ask her to take a photograph of herself holding a sign with your name written on it. But even if her photos aren't stolen she could simply be a "virtual ho" working for some sleazy agency that scams people.

Bottom-line: if it seems too good to be true it probably is. Would a girl who looks like a supermodel really be throwing herself at you? Don't flatter yourself and see reality here.

First of all, Russia is not a third-world country.

Secondly, stay away. I could tell you many a sad /funny/pathetic tale about Russian brides. Surely, you can do much better than this!

I'm not having any delusions of grandeur at all.

I wasn't going to say anything about Russia and their 2nd world status, but you did. I think its funny that they're still viewed as 3rd world.

I'm not looking to get married. Bottom line, she's a "pen-pal" and I'm not going to be her sugar daddy or whatever they're usually after.

Can you share some of the stories? My Grandpa has a wife from the Philippines...I know to stay away from such women...

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: :laugh: :laugh::laugh::laugh:

I think my man should be kind ,it is great feeling after love, only kind person may be happy, all rude people are unhappy.

or must be. A few questions yet, agency tells that I will have a room in nearest hotel near my future

work but if we like each other may be is it possible to live together?I think we will enjoy life together. do you have your car?animals? I

can't drive and I do hope you give me a few lessons, to be fair I have so many plans .I will find out all travel details

about my flight this week. I will leave my town today in a two hours and i think I will be not able to write to you today or so.

When I am in Moscow I will send you short letter to let you know that I am all right and they tell that it takes about two days to

get all nesseary papers, please confirm your phone number and international airport, I want to be sure I have all your details and

Please don't look at different girls.

She sent me photos of her in a bra and thong...she's hot, but even this creeps me out.

In the last email I sent, she didn't even mention anything of what I said.

I am so glad to see your letter again,I think I am a lucky girl to meet such man and I will do my best to meet you in real life!

you know I can work in any city of your area because it is free choice and agency only helps me to get

only travel documents and ticket, and I do hope that we will like each other and now I have the destination.

There's a bit of a difference. Sweden's a very cool and pretty safe place for women to live. Hardly the kind of country they're queuing up to leave. Russia, on the other hand...I can hardly hear the word Russian without instantly thinking "scams, con artists, mafia, shady billionaires, prostitutes, desperation..."

Don't feel bad about being semi-suckered. However much men might boast on message boards about not being phased/taken in by beautiful women, most of them will turn to jelly with an IQ of 15 when presented with a vision of femininity that they find especially pleasing. The more they boast immunity, the more likely it is to happen I'd say.

I've had a couple of scam emails sent to one of my email accounts recently too. One of those things that hint at you having been left money, having failed to fulfil your obligations, something about a Nigerian Bank, send your bank details etc etc. A weird combination of vague threats and promises of riches. I blame the credit crunch. I suspect as the months go by we're all going to be on the receiving end of more and more scamming attempts.

In the spirit of Xmas, I think you should post the pictures:)

Rather than blow your money on some gold-digger who is probably a 65 year old 300 lbs bald Russian fat guy, I have a much better idea. You should invest in my proposed new Brooklyn Bridge. I am selling shares at the bargain rate of $50,000 each - it will entitle you not only to upside participation in the LIFETIME revenues from the bridge, but you also get a permanent exemption from toll fees. You can even pass the exemption down to your kids. Come on, how many bridges are there from Brooklyn to Manhattan? You simply can't lose. Set yourself up for life and put your money worries aside. Contact me via PM for further details.

Yours sincerely,

DON'T DO IT!

That letter is practically word for word what was sent to me years ago when I was on Yahoo.

I didn't get scammed, but after a while I started to wonder how a "poor" girl could afford model shoots...and especially when several emails into it, she then asked me what city I'm from...when it was discussed before.

Don't reply...move on.

Posted
Either way, she's sending me photos and she's really good looking.

Don't take this the wrong way, but are you shallow? Who cares? The important questions to ask yourself right now are if you click. Do you have great conversation? Can you see a legitimate future with her?

You're asking people here because you already know it's a scam but you are refusing to believe it yourself.

Don't bother fellow respondents. This kid is obviously in denial.

Yep..total denial. I'm head over heels for a Russian who I've never met, gotten a few unsolicited emails from...totally lost!

Except for I'm not.

I'm not shallow either, its just there's not much to go on except the pictures. You're incredibly naive to think otherwise. Almost ALL online dating stuff is based on appearances first and content second. How else does one find someone they're attracted to? Search for someone who loves reading Goethe? No, you look at the piece of ass in the profile and you go from there. I kinda knew it was a scam from the beginning...give me some credit. I didn't fall off the proverbial turnip truck.

This is 100% a scam, it is THE oldest trick in the book. If she it that hot why is she on CRAIGSLIST of all places looking for a boyfriend? From Russia of all places. She is looking for suckers, I mean guys in North America because in all of Russia and Europe there are no men that will go out with this model bombshell? If she is a model don't you think she has a million opportunities already, treavelling and meeting guys left and right at photo shoots. Puuuhlease

Here's a story for you. I had a guy friend, more an acquaintance none of my guy friends are this daft, who told me the same thing. Only this guy, unlike you, was head over heels for some chick that contacted him online who sent him the same type of story as this and was making him crazy with all the fabricated crap that she would write to him, in limited emails of course. So one day I say to him let me see who this chick is that is driving you up the wall after three emails, and he shows me the pictures and it was a pic of this Brazilian model that was doing ads for mabeline mascara, and I recognized right away because she was doing tv ads at the time and her eyes caugh my attention when I'd see her on tv and I had looked her up to see where she was from she had a very exotic look. I laughed so hard, he could be THAT stupid because not only was he being duped by the oldest trick in the book but also the people on the other end of this scam were so damned lazy and so sure they can trick most men they didn't even bother to use pics of a chick that was believable they used someone that is hot in the modelling world knowing that MOST guys wouldn't even know the difference. She wasn't EVEN Russian.

Anyway it's CraigsList, enough said. CL is filled with predators that prey on the desperation of all the natural needs we have as human beings. Tell her to GO feck himself the next time "she" writes because I can guarantee you it is not even a woman on the other end.
