DaGroove Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I've been hearing a lot about these various dating "gurus" who actually take you out into the field and teach you how to meet people. For example, there's this guy who my friend recommended who does just this sort of thing. Supposedly, he's also coming out with a membership site soon to follow up with the program afterwards. I have no idea what it's all about, but the video looked promising. I was wondering... is it worth doing something like this?
PrincessPeach Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I think a lot of the responses you get from this will be very skewed. You need to ask youself if it is something that you want. Listen to the people who think is is/isn't worth doing, but also try to get at who those people are and which most resembles you and what you make of yourself. I don't think it's necessary for everyone, but there are definitely some people who would like it or want to do it. I don't have trouble meeting people, so I wouldn't use it for myself. But I don't necessarily think it's not worth doing for others. The people who say no most likely haven't tried it themselves and never will because of their bias. The ones who say yes would be those open to try it themseleves or ones that have already been through the process or condone it for whatever reasons. Each side has effecively been brainwashed to their opinion for whatever reason. It may be for you, but it may not be for you. Make the decision based upon who you want to be. I don't think theres anything wrong with trying it out. After you learn whatever methods you can choose whether or not its something you like or would want to do.
BikerBeagle Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I believe getting the knowledge is important if you are uncomfortable meeting women. Sadly, (good) pick-up artists are amazingly adept at reading signals and understanding the female mentality when it comes to attraction. Unfortunately, that's pretty much where it ends. Many of their techniques are meant for the 'quick' hook-up and aren't really conducive to opening an LTR because you are pretty much putting on a 'show' that may or may not be who you really are. You kind of have to keep what they are 'teaching' you in perspective. There are plenty of internet sites providing the same kind of information for free. fastseduction101 (google it, I don't know if it is appropriate to post links) is one.
fishtaco Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I believe knowledge and ability is never bad. IMHO, as a guy, you can be yourself all you want, but when it comes to attracting a woman, you have to put on a dog and pony show, period. Having the ability to put on a good show is never a bad thing. Dating is like sales and marketing. Even if you have the best product in the world, if you don't market it correctly, no one will buy it. Even if let's say putting on a show is bad, personally I don't see any situation where this could be the case, but let say you made a judgment call and decided this time, no show. Well, you can always turn it off. But if you DON'T have the ability to put on a show, you're SOL if the situation demands it. Techniques are just that. You choose when to use it, and for what purpose.
Trialbyfire Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Where pickup training falls on its face is when you continue using it to try to create a lasting relationship. It takes honesty, not games, to create a foundation of trust and respect.
fishtaco Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Absolutely. And I think the people that are teaching the pick up techniques will tell you that too. It's only step one, all it does is open the door for other opportunities. Even if a guy is only using it to have sex with the girl, pick-up techniques won't help him in bed either. That's another skill set, just like being in a relationship.
