Plan a trip! Take some vacation time months ahead and plan to travel somewhere, if possible.

This will give you something to look forward to. A way to move your thoughts into the unknown future rather than the broken record of the past that you can't do anything to change.

Make your plans very detail-oriented. Allow yourself to become obsessed with all the fussy things related to traveling, your destination, where to stay when you get there.. etc. A whole new thing to think about for a while, and a treat for yourself to boot!

Just a thought.

Hope you don't mind me adding a different tip.

Fear of loss is something that many people have difficulty with. It's what causes people to stay in relationships/friendships long past their shelf-life. It also prevents people from moving on, after breakup. Work on this. It only hurts for a little while, if you learn to let go faster.

This is seriously the greatest piece of advice ever. When people break up, they tend to shut themselves in and their life loses purpose for a while.

Going on a vacation can have therapeutic value, not only because you'll be getting away from your everyday reality, but also because you'll occupy yourself with planning and you'll have something to look forward to.

At the times when I was most depressed, I'd just plan my vacations into details, research about places I'm going to see etc.

If I had money, I'd seriously go to some sunny tropical destination right now, this winter is killing me.

yup, I'm going away in feb or march next year, I don't care where, so just one of those last minute travel deals I hope to get.

Even going alone means a lot. I know my ex is traveling with her friends and her boyfriends all the time, but I can go by myself. I realized I have to stop comparing my life to hers.
