Tony T Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I am frightened to get into a committed relationship, is there anyway to overcome this fear? There is absolutely no way to ensure that any relationship will be successful. If you want certainty, get a dog! The best you can do is PAY ATTENTION and go slow. You can never control the feelings of another person so don't even try. Meanwhile, read what Kahlil Gibran said about love in "The Prophet." Much of it applies to you: http://leb.net/~mira/works/prophet/prophet2.html In other words, if you're just looking for goodies and assurances just move on and find some other pastime. Love isn't for you.
Trialbyfire Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 OP, can you flesh out your situation a little better? For example, how old are you? Have you ever been in a committed relationship(s) in the past, particularly one that was traumatic? What kinds of relationships did you grow up with? Did you grow up with examples of functional/dysfunctional relationships?
Author S.T.C Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 I'm 23, grew up with out a dad and I have had three relationships, one long term relationship where the woman abused me mentally and two short terms one's that I bailed out of when things got serious.
Trialbyfire Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 STC, what do you see about yourself, within the short paragraph that you posted?
Author S.T.C Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 I see a person who is taking care of his feelings.
