Bells Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Since I brought it up in one post...and we are UPON the holidays.....ladies...would the ol' "Hey, you're standing under the mistle toe!!!!" work with you, ladies? Okay, let me rephrase that...would it work with you with male acquaintences you're out with at a Christmas party, say if you knew them somewhat well already? (I know I got one of you' alls answer on that one) Does that ol line work anymore? LOL Do you ladies pucker up? or are like "in your dreams!!"
Nemo Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 That's about as funny as dropping your pants under the mistletoe, and asking everybody to queue up. Dude, you need some lines that aren't as stale as a hundred-year-old loaf of bread.
prettybaby Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Yeah, I really don't know about this one. Unless I was head over heels with the guy and that we had already made some clear moves towards each other, it would probably make me feel more uncomfortable than anything else. Mainly because it's so cliche, and that it can be plain weird for a few seconds depending on the context and the person you're with lol Honestly, it probably wouldn't work with me if it was just some acquaintance at a party. Ideally, the mistletoe should be left for those couples who have recently started making out or who have already been together for a while lol There's just this whole sweet comfy Christmasy feeling with it that just strikes me as awkward for strangers/people you're not very intimate with yet. Well, that's just my opinion anyway. Maybe others will disagree.
OpenBook Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Bells, I think it all depends on how you pull it off. Socially, it's the status quo (almost an obligation) for the target of your affection to protest that they weren't actually under the mistletoe. It's a game. The ensuing argument could be a delightful exchange of brewing chemistry and tantalizing innuendo... or it could turn into an unmitigated disaster. It all depends on your personal charm, and the lady's current receptiveness to you.
Nemo Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 , I think it all depends on how you pull it off. Or whip it out?
OpenBook Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Or whip it out? I just knew you were going to pick up on that, Nemo.

Well, that's just my opinion anyway. Maybe others will disagree. Well, how did this whole "Mistle Toe" thing start......back in the "good ol days" I remember seeing moving pictures of the "Boys" coming home from WWII. Big ticket tape parade....they were interviewing this woman in her 80's, she said they'd just grab or be grabbed by anyone and get kissed n stuff by complete strangers or whatn ot Anyway, back to the mistletoe thing, I think it started off as even acquaintences maybe giving a small "peck" on the lips orsomething. An age, I guess where women were "hunting for husbands" and didn't mind this kind of forwardness?
shylight200 Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 If a guy said that to me, I wouldn't take it seriously. i would probably laugh or smile or something. but i definitely won't kiss him.
carhill Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Let us not forget that mistletoe is a parasite and the berries are poisonous
Star Gazer Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Honestly, if it were anyone other than a BF or someone I was dating and had already kissed, I'd probably recoil and be VERY turned off. I don't know, there's something very...creepy about looking for an unnatural moment to kiss a stranger/acquaintance.
IrishCarBomb Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 It's not that just the mistle toe line won't work... it's that lines in general won't work.
CommitmentPhobe Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 That's about as funny as dropping your pants under the mistletoe Actually he might get a better response if he taped some miseltoe to his dick and dropped his pants. Jingle Bells all the way.
Vertex Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 But then you may find it's actually poison ivy he's taping on. And then we've got Chestnuts Roasting Over an Open Fire.
CommitmentPhobe Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Which brings us to a silent night lol I'll stop now, it's the bells effect.

"unnatural moment." I love that. P.S. The humour definitely improved as this thread progressed. Mind you, somebody set a pretty low bar.
