fromlonelytogreat Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I feel that this is my downfall. How can I improve myself in this regard?
Half-Moon Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 i guess one of the first steps is to start exaggerating a little bit. don't overdo it though. watching david letterman may help too.
Author fromlonelytogreat Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 I already do that. I'm crap at doing the small talk thing though. I also never know when to throw in 'punchlines'.
Geishawhelk Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 You can't be something - or someone - you're not. If such things don't come naturally to you, then people will know you're faking it, because to try to be something you're not, stands out a mile. Just be yourself. Nobody else is better qualified. Which is why you can't be 'anyone else'.
Tarantula Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Free yourself . Once you feel you CAN DO it ,then you can do it . Once you feel ,it is not for You,then just stay as you are . Being natural you are just the best . God bless!

Having worked in broadcasting for many years I have seen more than my fair share of unfunny announcers try to be funny. And believe me when I tell you that there is nothing more unfunny than someone for whom humor does not come naturally, trying to be funny. Having said that...the best thing you can do to improve on this aspect of yourself is to READ. Stay informed about current events and then try to find the humor in them. Buy some joke books...take the ones you find funny and try to personalize them in some way. But don't force it...because as Geisha said...people will be able to tell. Wit is a difficult thing to develop...but reading...A LOT...will help...as long as you read the right stuff. But true, spontaneous, bust a gut wit is something you either have...or you don't. If after repeated attempts you find it isn't working for you then perhaps you should be the smart/informative one, not the funny one. Everyone has their niche and with a lil more searching you'll find your's.
Author fromlonelytogreat Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 I am rather spontaneous and excitable at times, but don't have the words.
