gaddes1 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 If you fell in love with the perfect person would you stop doing something that they really hated like smoking?
kizik Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 When you find that perfect person, let me know. Chances are they are narcissistic, and much further from perfect than you could ever imagine.
xpaperxcutx Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I would say there really isn't a perfect person, but there is that one person that you can really connect with. If and when I actually them, I would definitely change for them. Not because they ask me to, but because I want to be a better person for them. Besides smoking is bad for you, so you shouldn't wait for that special someone to come along to quit, you can just do it now.
norajane Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 If you don't make the change for yourself, it won't stick. The only exception might be if you stop smoking for your children's sake - that might be enough to stick to it.
Princess_in_love Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I wanted to quit smoking for awhile, but didn't really have enough motivation to make me do it. Then I met someone who is a non-smoker. He was kind enough to look past my smoking, and it made me think "what kind of person do I want to be WITH? Then what kind of person should I be?" So I decided to try and quit. I've been quit for over a month now! I wouldn't say he's perfect, but he inspired me to be a better person, without asking or anything. When someone makes you want to be a better person, and they care so much about your health that when you DO quit they are VERY happy - that could be a pretty "perfect" situation.
Tony T Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 If you have to change yourself in major ways for another person you are basically entering into a deceptive relationship that is a lie. If someone doesn't care for you generally the way you are they need to march on. Chemical attraction is short lived but the real you lasts much longer. Women are famous for wanting to change men but most of them are smart enough not to start making the effort until after the wedding...hahaha!!! (And most of them are unsuccessful).
Gremio Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 If you fell in love with the perfect person would you stop doing something that they really hated like smoking? Here's my view on smoking (WARNING: I am being blunt and honest. I think on a deep level) If a person smokes, they obviously don't care about themselves. More importantly in a relationship, it shows they don't give a **** about you as well. If a person doesn't love themself, they can't love you. By the way, I absolutely recommend reading "The Perfect Person" by J. M. Whitaker. It may open your eyes.

OMG, this reminds me of my ex. he was a smoker and he always smokes around me. I've told him various times to not do it, but he always comes up with an excuse to get away with it....
