fral945 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 If you had to pick one, would you prefer to date a guy who dresses nice and looks good in clothes but not so much without? Or a guy who's not that great a dresser but has a great body underneath? And there is no option for a great dresser with a great body. I'm sure you all would like that.
2sure Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I think we can safely assume many viewers of this post are saying: Hmmmm First impressions are by far the most important , because without a good one we won't go any further. Without a great first impression, a woman isnt going to find out how funny, smart, and wonderful you are with and without clothes. If a woman finds a guy charming, or entertaining, or otherwise charismatic ...some things can be overlooked, or go unnoticed, or even become attractive. (Depending on the degree, right?) So, I would say dressing well may be a good way to compensate for other imperfections.
Author fral945 Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 2sure, I should have added to my question: assuming everything else is equal about 2 guys except for that fact, who would you pick?
2sure Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Well, me personally? A well dressed man says many things to me. It says he has taste, class, and appreciates quality. It says he cares about impressions and looks. This is not always vanity - it can also be seen as respect, independence, and confidence. A well dressed man means I dont have tell him what to wear, or be concerned he will ever be dressed inappropriately. A well dressed man will be able to compliment me on my shoes and I will know he is sincere. "...They come runnin' just as fast as they can cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man."
lovestruck818 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 it depends...if he is fat, absolutely not, no matter how great he dresses.
Trialbyfire Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 There's a whole lot more to attraction than just clothing and body, fral, although an unfit body means he's not living a healthy lifestyle, one that matters a lot to me.

Obviously. I am focusing on this one area. Assuming all else equal, which do you choose?
Trialbyfire Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Obviously. I am focusing on this one area. Assuming all else equal, which do you choose? I would pick fitness since it means he's going to want to eat and live in a healthy way. A trip to the mall can fix a style problem, if he's so inclined. If he insists on looking like a guy who sleeps in his clothing, sayonara!
amaysngrace Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I'd choose the better body than the nicer clothes.
Ronni_W Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 If he has a great body, I can't imagine what he'd need to wear in order to be able to hide it from my prying eyes . If the question is about his style of clothes...I'd choose substance over style.

2sure Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Nope. Guys can lose weight. Guys can get fit. It is much harder to get class, style and good taste. And I dont want someone I have to dress, or feel the need to. Fitness is important, but things being equal, like OP stated - A man's attire says a lot about him.
Author fral945 Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Nope. Guys can lose weight. Guys can get fit. I would think it would be much harder to change a guy's eating habits and get him to start exercising vs. just changing his wardrobe. It is much harder to get class, style and good taste. And I dont want someone I have to dress, or feel the need to. Position noted. At this point, though, you appear to be the lone dissenter.
Trialbyfire Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Clothes don't tell you much about a person beyond who they WANT you to believe they are. You can dress up anyone. You cannot pretend to be leading a healthy lifestyle...
2sure Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Well, I'm 40. If a guy is a slob in either his physical fitness or clothing, it tells me he isnt on top of things. When I was younger, I was all about a great body and even married one . I still love a great body, (current husband's the most)...but As I have matured, I find that a man's wardrobe speaks volumes about who he is, what he does, if he is successful, where he goes, etc. These things are important not just to me, but to many discerning women.
perpdartNY Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 2sure, you are quite the lady. i concur, even though i am a guy.
Storyrider Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 You should prefer your lover's clothes off, obviously.
Nemo Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 You should prefer your lover's clothes Cross-dressing is a lot of fun. Highly recommended.
Storyrider Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Cross-dressing is a lot of fun. Highly recommended. That would be a bonus, especially if both looked pretty in pink.
Ayemtee Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 What do you ladies think about guys who rock several pairs of Retro Air Jordans? =)
mental_traveller Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Um... I would pick a fit body since I would change his clothing style.. You can change body too. 6 months in the gym and anyone will look buff.
mental_traveller Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Clothes don't tell you much about a person beyond who they WANT you to believe they are. You can dress up anyone. You cannot pretend to be leading a healthy lifestyle... But 99% of guys are not "dressed up", they choose their own clothes. Apart from on special occasions, people dress primarily for themselves. If someone feels good about themselves, dressing like crap feels unnatural. The clothes need to match how you feel inside. If you feel good, and dress good, when you go out then you feel like a tiger on the prowl. If you feel good, then put on a cheap mismatched outfit from discount stores, then you feel like a dweeb. Who wants to feel like a dweeb? Out of all the guys I know, the ones who are successful and have their s**t together generally pay reasonable attention to how they dress. The scruffs* generally have low self-esteem and feel they are to some extent failures, and dress in a way that lets everyone else know this fact loud & clear. * not including people who dress scruffy but have enough style to make it look good

It's not rocket science. I can take a guy shopping and have him look like Mr. GQ in one Saturday. What does that tell you about him? Dick all. There are enough guys that have g/fs, wives, female friends, even other guys, help them with their style. One of my exes, used to rely on his tailor to dress him. Big deal.
