wierdmunky Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I PROCRASTINATE like crazy. The thing is, I KNOW that I'm not supposed to do it, that I'm just going to be cramming non-stop with 10 cups of coffee in me to get whatever it is that I'm putting off - finished, (and I always get it done:) ) But it has got so out of hand that I all I do is stress about work to do, even when I'm relaxing or on a day off. Like today, I had all day to work on a 6 pg Econ test due tomorrow at midnight, a speech, 2 18x24 drawing projects, and a take home essay for a midterm. Today I was actually SUPPOSED to work on all that stuff. I gave myself thanksgiving weekend to relax and do what I wanted to do. The other thing is whenever I know I can relax I have NO idea what to do, or I'm just too lazy to go out. I end up sleeping all day and not socializing, and when I'm actually working I beat myself over the head thinking I should have gone out when I had the chance but I was sooooo lazy! and now I feel like I've been in the house the whole time. I end up feeling restless (when I'm not working, or "relaxing") and stressed out (when I am working) because I wait until the last minute to do things. The last week I was up for 2 days (well 3hours sleep inbetween days) because I was procrastinating on a book report I had to and I hadn't even read any of the book until 4 days before. Why do I do this to myself? Has anyone else done this? It's a repeating cycle for me and I REALLY need to stop. I usually tire myself out for a week, not do ANYTHING productive for a few days, and start over again.
Nemo Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I wouldn't worry about it. Like you say, you always pull through. Good for you. Honestly, this attitude comes in really handy in corporate life. When you get a real job, if you put something off for long enough, then somebody else will do it. It's just brilliant! A golden strategy! They get sick of waiting for you to get it together, and go ahead and do it for you. This allows you to relax, and get on with whatever you would rather do on the company's time. Like Facebook, or browsing LoveShack, or whatever. Procrastination makes those who are brave enough to practise it very happy indeed. And the restless souls will gaze upon you with envy.
