Should a man dress up in a suit for the first date? What if I'm just meeting her up at starbucks for coffee?

Posted

Unless you're coming from work and wear a suit there, it's pretty silly to dress in a suit for Starbucks. Wear a nice shirt or sweater and pants, or nice shirt/sweater and jeans to Starbucks.

Leave the suit. Just dress nicely and make sure you smell very nice.

I wear a suit everday to work, so if we'd be meeting up right after work, I'd be wearing a suit.

But in general, if it's a weeknight, I'd still keep my suit on, that's how I always dress, part of my style, so the venue of the date really doesn't effect the thought process of the outfit to wear....

only if going to the best restaurant in town....for a 1st date i would recommend dressy casual clothes and a moderate restaurant

Unless you make it clear that your date will be on your way home from work then don't show up in a suit. It might make her feel uncomfortable because I doubt she'll be wearing matching apparel and then she'll feel under-dressed, which will only further her discomfort of the situation.

And like Alpha said above me. Unless you intend on lengthening the date by going to an upscale resteraunt then don't show up in a suit.

I wear suits every day as well. I would not wear one out unless it was on the way home from work or you were going to a very high end restaurant. Most restaurants in the city wont force a suit and tie any longer.

It might scare her if you show up that way and its not appropriate. I personally think its over kill.

I would think it was overkill unless you just got off work. It would feel like a job interview.

Dress to the occasion.

Starbucks...I wear a nice button up shirt with fitted jeans and nice shoes.

Dinner date...maybe the same thing with a sport coat.

Formal event...suit.

Many guys think dressing up will impress and be an instant happy ticket for women...but on a first date you can more scare her than impress her. Dress for the occasion. Show her you're relaxed, fun, stylish, and comfortable.

What if you left it in the car? Or your locker at work?

 I wouldn't suit up for starbucks. Unless as mentioned before you needed to wear one for work.

Wear something that fits you nicely, and that you feel like you look really good in. If you have a nice watch wear it. Smell good, brush your teeth, groom yourself, make yourself look your best and Wear nice shoes! I have no idea why, but shoes are really important to a lot of women. (if you don't have a $600 pair of Prada shoes, at least polish what you do have). Anyway look like you want to be there.

I usually tell them I am still learning about style, and that she seems to have a really good sense of style. Then I ask her what style she thinks looks the sexiest on a man. This will tell you what you need to wear for the second date. Also, I find it kind of fun dressing like what they think is the most sexy. Sometimes it is things I never even thought of before, and I find a new style that I like.

Anyway if you don't ask you might wear something that will totally turn them off. Some girls like wierd hipster dudes, and think guys in a suit are dorks. Other girls think a man in a suit is the sexiest thing in the world, and would never date a guy that looks like a rebel.
