What does it mean when a girl asks this?

I've been on two first dates recently. Both were out to dinner at decent restaurants, but nothing over the top. Anyways both times, about 30 mintues into the dinner, both girls asked me "what are you doing later?"

I know it depends on the situation and can mean something different each time, but it seems weird it happened both times.

Does it mean:

a) they like you and are trying to get you to ask them to do something else after.

b) they don't like you and are hinting that you should think about other plans.

c) have no motives and are just curious.

Any thoughts? I'm not asking you to read minds, but just what you think it means from your experience.

Most likely a, c, or both a and c (they might be curious about what youre doing later so they can tag along later). I would never ask that question if I wasn't interested in the guy, so its a good sign they're asking you that.

Agreed - either A or C.

I suppose if you want to know you might say something like "Um, I planning on going to _____. If you happen to be free, you could definitely come along with me." That way if she is interested in spending more time with you, she has an open invitation. Otherwise if she's just curious or has other plans, she'll let you know she isn't available. I suppose if she is just curious and wasn't specifically interested in spending more time with you, then perhaps she is just wondering how you like to spend your time, just to get a better idea about you and your habits. That could be another reason to ask.

I don't suppose any of this rationale is specific to women. I'm sure if it were a guy asking this question, it would likely be for the same reasons.

If I asked a guy that on an early date, it would be because I didn't want the date to end immediately after dinner... I wanted to spend more time with him.

If, on the other hand, I was looking to "get away quick," I would say what *I* was doing after dinner, and then maybe ask, "How about you?" after I'd made it clear I had plans later. Or was tired. Or my hair needed washing. Or whatever.

Though it could always be "C." Sometimes we girls just like to ask questions.

It's conversation, and a sign of interest in you as a person.
