spook, you're driving yourself nuts over this. He's your immediate boss. Stay away. It could easily turn ugly.

Guys have egos, particularly middle management types.

He is NOT a "middle-management" type! He is young.

Those middle managers are the first ones to get it when layoffs come around. Unstable.

You can be young and be a middle-manager. Really!

I'm the only person he's ever managed, and all that means is he gives me his extra work. I'm pretty sure that makes him lower-management.

Didn't you mention before that he's some kind of VP?

Yah, I got that wrong. He's an FSA. Most of the time I have no idea wtf's going on.

He's got to ask her out first. This is one of those little niceties, y'know...

I would prefer this.

TBF, INO, is it still not ok to attempt to get in his pants?

Well sheesh, this has been going on for how long now? A few months? If he hasn't made his move yet, that's pretty slow. On the otherhand, perhaps he's also concerned about professionalism. Who knows. Men are strange. That is all!

Sweetie, while it's difficult to maintain professionalism when you've got a major crush going, I seriously wouldn't advise hooking up with an immediate boss. The potential drama that could ensue, can't be worth it.

This is your first serious job, although you've mentioned that you don't think it's going to be your career path for life. On the otherhand, a good reference for future jobs can really help.

Weigh it. Make smart choices spook. :)

I think it's going to be my career path until I become rich and famous like I've always secretly believed, or I retire. So it is pretty important to make good choices.

Ugh.

At least I DIDN'T stalk him at the gym he goes to tonight. Little steps at a time, right?

I don't know what Olivia Wilde looks like but from pics spook's posted, she's very attractive.

I vote for: tie him to a chair and f*uck his brains out.

I broke up my routine Wednesday morning. Instead of waking up at 5 to hit the gym, I slept in, ate breakfast and smoked a few joints, and spent the early morning driving around town very slowly, listening to the radio as I searched for a place that would sell Clear Eyes.

My job is PERFECT for being stoned.

Anyway, when I got to the office, I noted that Jack had sent me a form to fill out relating to the appraisal crap.

Since I was high, it was easy for me to become engrossed both in the self-analysis and in the writing aspects of the appraisal, and the finished product was nearly worthy of print in a junior college creative writing publication, if I say so myself.

Jack was impressed.

He took me to another private room for another meeting.

This one was far more relaxed.

We talked about my communication skills. "It's obvious you're a really quiet person," he said, "but that's not something you should ever view as a weakness. If you can think of anything I can do to make it easier for you to approach me or others about your work, let me know. I want to help.”

Then we got on the topic of organization.

“Prior to coming here,” I said, “I’d never so much as organized a sock drawer, so it took a while for me to catch on to the fact that it’s important to have a long-term plan in place for how you’ll save things.”

He laughed. “Yah, I don’t do that stuff either,” he said “But I think you know WHAT to do, and I think I know why you don’t like doing it. If you’re anything like me, you want to get it perfect on the first try, but that’s a daunting task, so you put it off and off while things keep piling up.”

“Yup,” I said. He flashed me his boyish smile.

The atmosphere was relaxed between us, and after talking about work for a little while longer, he began telling me hilarious stories about his various bosses, and then we talked about families, and Thanksgiving.

I had… a really good time. An hour and forty minutes of it, giggling across from him in an empty, breezy room.

I still maintain that he's perfect for me. I think he's feeling it too.

But my best friend figures I'm reading it all wrong. That while Jack certainly likes me, it's as a mentor, and I need to start appreciating that for what it is, cause there’s probably a lot I can learn from him.

I know he’s right. I need to learn to enjoy his company for what it is.

But that is so hard to do.

I am glad to hear the good news (which ever way you look at it). You're not getting fired; I knew it all along.

. . .“But I think you know WHAT to do, and I think I know why you don’t like doing it. If you’re anything like me, you want to get it perfect on the first try, but that’s a daunting task, so you put it off and off while things keep piling up.”

Haha. Yes. That's what I do as well.

I think your friend is right. Although I sense that Jack (IF that's his real name) thinks highly of you, I'm not entirely sure he does so in a romantic view. I know you don't want to hear this, but it is what it is for the time being.

I think it's still not too late, at all, to do something about it. You should continue to open up to him. Don't hold back. Show him that you're capable of having a wholesome (sans drugs, alcohol, etc) life. BE an adult about it.

He's a mentor to you, at this point, which is really important for your career. You're going to have to remove the mentor image, somehow. I don't know how this could be done, unless you literally throw yourself at him.

Did he remain seated the entire time you spoke? If so that's a good sign. If he was able to walk around, that's a bad sign.

Doesn't your job have drug testing?

Yes, for hiring. I got clean for that, but honestly, I'm BETTER at math and Excel and s!ht when I'm stoned. Also, for the record, I am NOT going to make a habit of smoking before work, whether or not I think it's true that it makes me better. I was breaking up my routine. Now I'm done breaking it.
