2sure Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I've always envied those ugly guys who have great girlfriends because they have a good sense of humour more than anyone. I've always been a very laid back guy but I'm simply not a funny person and I feel that's always worked against me. Lino - Come to the US, women will find you charming and amusing. For some reason, an Aussy accent makes everything sound smart and funny to us.
monkey00 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 As a guy, I would be all over a woman if she knew how to make me laugh. Most women I've dated didn't really have much of a sense of humor, which is fine actually as long as she laughs at what I have to say or goes with the flow. I think humor (and sarcasm) is a strong indicator of wit, intelligence, charisma, confidence, and a positive outlook on life. There is a strong difference between being cleverly funny and someone who's a class clown that's looking for attention. But in all seriousness though..who likes a stiff?

Thanks for your suggestion I'm not a standard Aussie though. I migrated here from Italy when I was younger so I have a... 'watered down' Italian accent I guess you could say Besides I'd want women to find me funny, not my accent. I know full well that an accent can get you a girl but it won't do anything to help you keep one
Taramere Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Humour's a good coping mechanism, and most people use it a lot in communication and flirtation with the opposite sex. I'm wary of people who don't demonstrate any sense of humour - and, in particular, the ability to laugh at themselves. Being able to laugh when things go wrong helps people to stay sane, and it can turn a potentially bad situation into a great anecdote. I'd wonder how a man who couldn't do that would manage conflict and stress without being unpleasant, angry and generally draining to be around.

I agree wholeheartedly with this, and I'll go a step further and say that when I see someone who can't laugh at themselves, it makes me wonder whether they can really take a step back and see themselves - or at least try to - which I think is a very important skill.
Trialbyfire Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 When it comes to handling women, a man needs a sense of humor. Works both ways! Women are from Venus and men are from Pluto, formerly known as a planet. I do agree that everyone should especially be able to laugh at themselves, not only laugh with themselves.
