I was thinking about this last night. I'm a lefty, male, 28 years old.

In my dating career, I have never ever dated a left-handed female!

Just so you righty's know, being a lefty, I look at the world and every day situations in a much different way than 90% of you do.

Now I'm wondering, what it would be like to date someone who sees the world the same way, but I guess I'll never know. I'm in an amazing relationship, with a righty!

Posted

.. because they are rare?

I admire you guys though, most of you are very brilliant people. And I find it cute the way you write

I would like to date a lefty one day. Heck, maybe I'll come to Brooklyn one day when you break up with Miss whatever-her-name-is

I'm a lefty too... well, actually I'm ambidextrous, I do fine motoro skills with my left and broad motor skills with my right but I can interchange rather easily.

I have dated lefties and righties and have found that lefties tend to be more open minded about pretty much anything as well as sexually adventurous. But there's nothing wrong with a rightie. I find them to be more grounded in general. I guess it's a good trade-off?

Yep, ditto (on the dating a southpaw part). Purely anecdotal, but I've met far fewer left-handed women than men as well. I'm more ambidextrous that a pure leftie (can write with my right hand, for example), but definitely notice it's a right hand world.

I am a pure full-on lefty, can't do anything with my right hand, cut off my left hand, I'd be a useless human!

I hear your point carhill about lefty women are even rarer...

And shygirl, I will let you know, if and when we break up...lol

Count your lucky stars you're left handed in 2008. Centuries ago you would have not been able to get a date as a left hander as it was seen as socially unacceptable

I'm a lefty (like Brooklyn--cut off my left hand and I am useless)--and female. My ex was a lefty as well, other than the novelty of us both being lefties, I didn't really notice anything.

I am with a righty right now that is more compatible with me emotionally/physically/mentally.

Funny thing is that I never seem to notice these things. I hope my exH was a righty; I don't even know what my current BF is, hopefully a righty. Amazing you guys seem to take note of that.

Other than the fact that I play guitar right handed, I am a true southpaw.

Now that I think about it, I've never dated a lefty. I never really thought about it much to be honest.

You mean how we write with the paper sideways instead of straight?

Hahaha, my GF always asks me why I only write on one side of paper in a normal spiral notebook......

REALLY funny you should mention it, I'm a lefty and left-handed guys, in my experience, do not like me. Can you think of any possible explanation? LOL! I also feel like left handed guys are shyer around women but not sure if this is true,

Just curious, but in what way is so different than right handers?

I'm a lefty and i have dated a lefty.

I didn't see much of a difference and it didn't work out. So maybe your better off with a righty. :)

I actually have admired people who are right handed...i also wondered what it would be like.....but i'll never know myself. haha

Well for me I live in NYC, the subway turnstiles are specifically a challenge for me since you swipe the farecard on the right on the particular turnstile and basically I have to go across my body to swipe with my left hand.

But its things you wouldn't think about, like, scissors, computer keyboards, power saws, writing, reading, some knives, and even some classroom desks (I hated essay exams in college, impossible to support my arm!!) even wrist watches!

I guess, we have stop to consider the difficulties to use tools simply not designed for lefty's. Lefty's have to adapt to a world simply not designed for them. I drive a stick shift, obviously, in America I can't change where the stick is, but I want to drive one in England so bad just see what it's like to use my left hand on the throttle!

I write like a righty, but with my left hand. No hand contortions for me, straight up and down the paper. I read that left handers who slant excessively are actually left brain oriented and not "true" lefties as lefties who write like I do, not slanted at all--which would make me right brain oriented. But, never really research it, just read it somewhere.

And I have problems with doors--they open the wrong way for me at my building--I am always trying to pull open on the left side, and they actually open on the right side. I don't know why that is.

And of course-scissors are my big thing as well as notebooks and journals. Funny enough, my company of only 8 people has three lefties. And half of my company has birthdays within 5 days of each other in January.

Also, lefties are more prone to accidents. I fell down 6 times this year--it must be that the sidewalks are right hand oriented. :p

Ok--I was wrong--from Wiki:

It can be difficult for left-handed children to learn to write if the teacher does not take the student's left-handedness into account. In fact, even in the later 20th century, some UK schools were discouraging children from writing with their left hand, often seriously affecting the child's development (Hansard 1998). When properly done, left-handed writing is a mirror image to that of the right-hander, making the teaching process confusing for the right-handed teacher of a left-handed student. The result is that many left-handed children learn to write with their hand curled around the pen so that it can meet the paper at the same angle as the right-hander and also to account for the front page of notebooks and binders, as the books open so you write on the right side, which puts the binding on the left side, inhibiting the left hand from writing freely.[34] Once this habit is formed, it is difficult to break.[35] This curling of the hand results in the heel of the palm being placed behind the writing, forcing the writer to lift it off the paper and making the grip even more awkward. In addition, constantly lifting and replacing the hand over fresh ink often causes smudging, causing problems for many left-handed students, especially in exam situations. When the left hand is held correctly, it is below the writing, as is typical for right-handers.

Also, funny enough, George Bush is left handed as is Barack Obama AND John McCain---the apocolypse???:lmao:

I'm a lefty and i have dated a lefty.

I was going to ask Zicke this same question; so did you guys find out you were both lefties after you got together, or was that one of the motivation to date?

Posted

I love left-handed men. I'm a rightie. My father is left-handed and my brother is a bit ambi. Anyway, the left-handers I dated I fell for quickly, but they weren't emotional enough -- rationalized away too many of their feelings.

The last rightie I was with was too emotional, quite bright, but his emotions got the best of him at times.

I definately notice what hand a man uses, and perhaps when I see a leftie this automatically increases my attraction a bit, at least in that I pay them more attention to see if I see any other attractive qualities.

It was after we started dating that we realized it.

Rare, uncommon things are usually considered attractive.

I feel like left handed women are emotional but left handed men are not. Interesting stuff here.

I don't really get how being lefty or righty would make a difference in dating but I'm a lefty too soo whoooo hooooo.. I've never dated a lefty before but its crazy because at work, including myself there are 4 lefties in an office of about 25-30 people. There might even be more that I just haven't noticed.. My pops is a lefty and so is my nephew.. GO LEFTIES !! ^_^

Go Lefties!!!

I don't think I have ever dated a left handed person. Perhaps I should try it.

The only real benefit I can see is that sitting side by side during eating would be much more pleasant. No elbow bashing.

Aside from that I don't know that more can be read into preferred hand dexterity.

I'm a lefty... :bunny:and I've only dated righties :D Never even thought about it before :p

I agree, and I don't think it would either.

I guess I wonder what it would be like to date someone who "gets it" with respect to living life as a lefty, nothing more to it....
