deciduous Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 How important are the political views of a man or woman you meet to you? As an example, I met a seemingly nice girl. I am rather reserved when talking about politics to anyone I date, or meet through business. However, she started ranting and raving about how the USA needs to start dropping nukes on Arab countries. When someone makes statements like that, I almost immediately lose all interest. Or, as a less extreme example, when you meet someone who speaks about big topics, has very little knowledge, but just feels they are right, and are not open to listening at all. Would this bother most of you?
carhill Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 When people start droning on about politics, I just hear "bla, bla, bla" and start looking around for a hawt girl to fantasize about. How boring. We have some friends who love this stuff (the husband especially) and I just bait him so he starts blathering on and I then excuse myself to talk with his hawt wife about more interesting things Dating? I can't imagine talking about politics. Someone whom I might consider marrying? Yeah, their political and fiscal philosophies would be of interest to me as a part of compatibility.

Storyrider Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I agree with Carhill that if you have the right connection with someone, politics will be the last thing on your mind when you get them alone.
RecordProducer Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 However, she started ranting and raving about how the USA needs to start dropping nukes on Arab countries. This I wouldn't consider a political view. I'd call it a disgusting personality view. When people start droning on about politics, I just hear "bla, bla, bla" Hahahaha! Dating? I can't imagine talking about politics. Someone whom I might consider marrying? Yeah, their political and fiscal philosophies would be of interest to me as a part of compatibility But not during the dating phase? So when you're already in love, you can undo the love job once you hear that she is pro-Bush or something, huh? I'm impressed, Carhill... compatibility rules!
alphamale Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 i am generally not compatible with hard-core republicans....
Author deciduous Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 I also noticed a shift already. I was talking to an ex of mine whom I have been friends with for years. She was always anti-war. Now she is an Obama supporter. I told her "Well you know Obama wants to increase our forces in Afghanistan" Now, all of a sudden, she is pro war. She said something like "Well we need to kill the terrorists, even if we have to kill everyone there" It seems more and more people are becoming "know it alls" because we are inundated with more news sources. News on tv 24 hours a day. And it isn't necessarily in the midst of a conversation where it belongs, more or less just things blurted out that I find to be ridiculous, or repulsive. I guess I was wondering if I was being too picky.
