Joey Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 This is quite embarassing to me, I haven't yet said anything to anyone. But like a week or so ago I noticed what feels like a cyst or knot of some kind that is like the size of a penny in my rectum. I don't know if it's on the side of my rectum or pertruding or what.. but it's there and is like a big mass or a ball of some sort that is there. I can place my finger right where my rectum opening is and feel it. I have no clue what it is, any idea?
Tony T Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 Please understand I am not a doctor and you should see one as soon as you are able. Though your symptoms don't sound life threatening, there's no way of telling. What your condition sounds like is hemorrhoids, which can be inside or outside the anus. You may also have a hypertrophic anal papilla. This is a disease whereby round nodules appear at the anus where normal tissue once existed. Anal warts can also form a hard mass as you describe. There's a chance you could have a pilonidal cyst, which is usually directly above the buttox. It is said that this is where man had a tail way back in the evolutionary process and sometimes a cyst forms there that requires draining or removal by surgery. I'm glad you can here with this question and that you felt OK discussing this on LoveShack.
Joey Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 Thanks for your reply, I'm getting ready to take a look at the provided link. My doctor isn't in on Fridays, but if it hasn't went away or gotten better by Monday I'll make an appointment. Would I go to my regular family doctor or is there another doctor that'd I need to see?
Tony T Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 Your regular doctor should be able to provide an accurate diagnosis. If he feels treatment should be rendered by a specialist, he will refer you to the appropriate one, most likely a proctologist.
Jamie31 Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 It's probably hemorrhoids, but it might be a dingleberry stuck in there. Does it bleed?
Joey Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 No, doesn't bleed.. it somewhat itches every now and then but not bd or anything.
MarieW Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 If it itches it does sound like haemorrhoids. They usually clear up okay with cream or suppositories but sometimes they need to be removed if they're particularly stubborn. Definitely see a doctor though to rule out anything else. Jamie, I am going to sound extremely naive here I bet but WHAT is a dingleberry????? I'm English so maybe it's an American term but I'm intrigued now.
quankanne Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 OMG, JAMIE!!!!!! I'm waiting to see how you handle this question. Dingleberry, I haven't heard THAT one in a long, long time, I appreciate the good laugh this morning.

MarieW Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 LOL! Thanks cindy. That must be the most informative thing I've learned all day.
