She said, there's no such place as heaven or hell - we are already in it. Now of course we can dispute that. We are here, on the world, living. But have you ever contemplated that the disapointments, the struggles, the pain, the toil, the destruction, the monotonous, never-ending, impossibility of this life is the TRUE hell. Not in an all guns blazing, fiery pit demons with pitch-forks type of way but in terms of it being a struggle? And perhaps when we die, we simple come back and return and do this over and over again. I thought it was interesting enough to throw it out there...
quankanne Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 if you believe that hell is purely a spiritual realm, then this earthly life cannot be considered hell itself. hellish, yes, when things are going bad, but not hell itself. as for what your friend said about "the disappointments, the struggles, the pain, the toil, the destruction, the monotonous, never-ending, impossibility of this life" ... well, I call it the "glass is half empty" syndrome. If that's what you focus on, then that's all you're going to find.

Lovelybird Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 The real hell is much much terrible than here on earth, did you watch 23 minutes in hell ? there are many people who had this experience in hell, and described hell terribly. As for struggles and pains on earth, when you think them as they having special purpose, then probably you would think life another way. If you don't, then life is purely meaningless ups and downs. What are their meaning? it is like alchemy. through fires and pains, with purpose in heart, a person's character can be formed like gold. or by Christian's term, to be transformed like Jesus Christ, this is a high goal, so no matter what happen, we are expecting better things to come, better characters formed. Then why pains? if a human never experienced pain, they cannot empathy others; if a human is too satisfied in earthly things, he won't strive for spiritual things. Human has a tendency, TENDENCY to corrupt morally, this is not only applied to one person, but also to whole human race In this sense, pain serve a good purpose

Chosing Christ may not solve all the turmoil on Earth created by other men, but you will live eternally in Peace when you pass from this life to the next.

chris250 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 As I read more of the bible particularly the 4 gospels that contain Jesus' teachings I see that most of His teachings were directed on experiencing heaven or hell in the here & now. Jesus did not speak much about the afterlife or end time events. He taught that the kingdom of God is within us. It's not a kingdom that is coming in the future. It's not a geographical location. The kingdom of God is wherever peace, joy, righteousness & love dwells. You can see the expression of this kingdom now. The only hell that exists is the hell we create in our minds through our distorted perceptions of God. If we believe God is angry and He's keeping a record of the mistakes we make then we're creating hell in our minds. Nobody is really separated from God except in their minds. The belief in an angry God is hell itself. As far as what happens when we die? I believe everyone goes to heaven as those who didn't receive the revelation of the kingdom of God now will receive it on the other side. What will this heaven be like? I do not know.
