lofi_tokyo
In Japan its a common superstition that if a woman cuts her hair short, its because of a bad breakup. When my first ex left me. I had LONG hair, and I cut it. Today, I've cut my hair again! It was long (3.5 years of growing!) and now I have a pixie cut! I wanted to cut my hair like this forever but never let myself because my ex didn't like it one bit (the idea of short hair). Well, I guess I've said goodbye officially, in my own way, because he sure as hell ain't comin' back with my hair short, no sir! Also, I feel sexy and confident again! YES! Author lofi_tokyo
Hehe thanks! Its nice... I think I'm going to start jogging again too, and tanning. I don't mean to be superficial, but I like feeling sexy, and thats how it goes! Also, I meant to call this post "Cutting OFF my hair" not "cutting OF my hair".....
Ruby Slippers
Cute 'do! I am getting mine cut soon, too, a little past shoulder length. I am hoping they can reproduce my favorite cut I've ever had, from pictures. The ex loved it long, so I kept it that way for him -- meanwhile going through tons of expensive conditioner to keep it detangled and nice. I also bought a box of screaming red (vivid copper) hair dye yesterday, so for fun I'll be going from blonde to red soon.
Hersheys
Hi tokyovogue! You look hot and sexy on your new haircut! I hope your recent contact with the ex and his girl made you stronger and will make your healing faster. NC will be easier now. Your recent contact with the ex proved that he is still capable of hurting you again. My ex ex left me for another girl and I spent 1.5 years avoiding them and one day I just realized why am I avoiding these two a#holes, I don't owe them anything! I feel indifference for both of them now. Someday you will feel the same way too and look back and wonder why the heck did they even matter to you.
Author lofi_tokyo
Ruby, all I've gotta say is, its crazy how we keep our hair a certain way to keep our men happy! I'm glad were both changing it up. Yay!! Hersheys... I cannot BELIEVE your ex and the lady he left your for are STILL together!!! After 1.5years! That is ridiculous! I mean, I guess its not, people fall in love and stick together but... damn. I'm sorry it turned out that way.

Ruby Slippers
Ruby, all I've gotta say is, its crazy how we keep our hair a certain way to keep our men happy! I'm glad were both changing it up. Yay!! He always said he wouldn't mind if I cut it, but I knew he found it supersexy long, and I didn't mind indulging him. I loooooved when his hair grew out slightly (the bedhead is so much hotter then!), so he wouldn't cut it as often as he wanted to so I'd have more of his hair to play with. But there is DEFINITELY something symbolic and lightening about cutting off your hair!

Author lofi_tokyo
Thanks all! I really like my hair! I made the mistake of showing my ex a picture and his reponse was something along the lines of "yeah not really my taste, but its trendy" He uses trendy to describe people who try to hard! Blah! Oh well, my mistake, going NC, I love my hair!!

CherishG
WOW~ You actually chopped it all off! I don't think I have the courage to chop all of mine off, though I did dye my hair black and that's something extreme for me! But you look great! You sorta resemble Tinkerbell now! lol hugs

Adamagnet
According to evolutionary psychology theory, you would probably have a greater chance attracting a mate with longer hair, as its length is correlated with attraction and inversely correlated with age. I find it interesting that the behavior is common post break-up. Do you feel the need to find someone or are you more in a non-dating phase?
Author lofi_tokyo
Um.. I would say... I realize boys like girls with longer hair, its seen as sexy. But, I would rather come off as confident rather than hiding behind my hair. Not sure if that has to do with wanting boys to come my way or not. You could be onto something though... OR! It could be that a lot of my girlfriends associate hair with memory. Thats why its so hard to cut it - you're snipping off a part of yourself, the hair that you could hide between, the hair thats been with you for literally years! SO maybe cutting hair after a breakup is a combination of: A) Wanting to reshape oneself, you're no longer the person that was dumped, or the person who was in a bad relationship. B) You're shedding the old memories to make room for new ones to grow. I think mostly, almost all girls change their look up a bit after an emotionally devastating break up. Be it a hair color change, getting bangs, getting layers, shortening their hair... whatever... its to look new. A new hairstyle makes you feel fresh.
carhill
Don't know if this makes sense, but, as my wife is a hair stylist, I think perhaps that one reason some customs call for cutting hair off after a breakup is because hair, like rings of a tree trunk, tells history, in this case, history of a relationship. Lots of experiences in those microscopic scales on the hair shaft
