Can't figure out if I want to get back together: learned he had an affair in the past

I just found out why the guy I was dating got a divorce. He "fell in love" with his married receptionist and started an affair with her. He left his wife and assumed she was going to leave her husband. She didn't. Hear's my question, how can you believe you are in love with someone when you are not in a real relationship. He was married; she was married and in the end she went home to her husband every night. Why does he think he is in love with her? They haven't experienced an actual relationship with all its ups and downs with one another. Obviously she realizes this and is still with her husband. Why does he still think he loves her? Help me, I can't figure it out and I can't figure out if I want to get back together with him after finding this out.

sweety, if he can do it while you were dating him, he can do it to you when/if you get married to him. dont ever date this loser again. move on

He wasn't with her when we were together nor did he talk with her while we dated. However, he had only stopped seeing her about 6 months before we started dating so my concern is he is just biding time waiting for her to leave her husband.
