Gwyneth Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Hello All My little girl has FINALLY arrived. And I'm POOPED Leni Susan (pronounced Laney) was born on the 22nd at 9:16 p.m. weighing in at 6 lbs 8 oz, and 18 inches long. She's beautiful. I'm pooped. I gave birth naturally (don't ask how because it's a PAINFUL memory) but the delivery was not as bad as I predicted it would be. She's a fairly small baby, thank god! So far she has been really angelic. She's napping right now and when she's not napping, she's eating or pooping, or crying. LOL. I'm so in love with her. I can't stop staring at her--it's just amazing she's finally here. When I get around to it, I will take a picture of her with my digital camera and share with all of you. This is literally my first breath of fresh air since I came home from the hospital last week after having Leni. My mom has been staying here helping me which I'm relieved because I didn't think it would be this tiring. I wasn't thiking much at all! I think my brain popped out while pushing LOL. In the delivery room was my mother. Sperm donor was not there; earlier this month, he signed off his parental rights--so it's a done deal. Leni has my last name and I'm proud she does She's so tiny and her little fingers are just so adorable. I can't stop staring at her. Thank you for all the well wishes. I can't believe the nine months are over already! It went by so fast, and I recorded every moment of my pregnancy and delivery so that I can share my experience with Leni some day when she is old enough to understand. I'm having some family over today to visit Leni so I need to freshen up. I will check up the board later or some time this week, so if you reply and I don't respond, I'm not ignoring you! I'm just tired and overwhelmed at the same time.
whichwayisup Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Hey G! Congrats on your new bundle of joy! She sounds adorable!! Don't forget to get some rest in for yourself, that is, if you can stop staring at her! Also, glad to hear the bozo signed his right away. Hopefully he won't try to contact you.

Wishing you a wonderfully fulfilling and rewarding 'parenthood'. Understandable that you are exhausted -- thanks for the taking time/strength to update us with your good news.
Meaplus3 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Congrats Gwyneth and welcome to the world little Leni. Enjoy your new bundle. AP:)
Sassy Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Congrats on your new bundle of joy! Enjoy every minute of it cause they grow up so fast .. My daughter is 9yrs old and just had another baby girl on July 15th 2008!! She weighed 10pds 13 oz 22 1/2 inches .. My first daughter was 6pds 9.5 oz 19 3/4 inches. I don't know how but our bodies do some amazing things in birth!! I had Kensley Faith natural after 16 hrs 3mins of labor. Haley was a breeze compared to Kensley! Only 5hrs and 13 mins .. I almost had to have a C-section because I started running a low grade fever , luckily I suggested the vaccum and it hurt like heck but I got her out. I wasn't able to sit for 5wks. She is now almost 4mths and she is a doll . I can't get enough of her .. I just upload a picture of my two girls !! Kensley is a chunky baby as you can see in my profile. Can't wait to see your new baby girl Leni!!
angie2443 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Welcome to the world Leni:) and congratulations Gwyneth! You'll fall more in love with your little girl every day, trust me:love:.
JamesM Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Congratulations! Let the games begin! Seriously, as has been said...enjoy each moment. And when the moments are not enjoyable, then relax....knowing that this moment will not last. My phrase I used so often when the kids were babies was ..."This too shall pass." It was a way to endure the frustrating times and a reminder to enjoy the memorable moments. Before you know it, she will be driving.....no, not a car....you...crazy!

blind_otter Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Thank you All for your kind words and well wishes Now it's time for me to sleep (hopefully more than three hours ). 3 hours? You lucky mama! My son was up every 1.5 hours for many weeks. Congratulations!!!! I'm so happy for you. The only advice I can give is to sleep when she sleeps. Everyone tells you that, but there is always a temptation to try to get stuff done when the baby is sleeping. Just lay down as much as possible for at least the first 2 weeks. If you're breastfeeding, try to find out when your La Leche League meets - it's a great way to meet other mamas with babies around your daughter's age.

It's more like 20 minutes of sleep, if I'm lucky.
blind_otter Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Ha. It's more like 20 minutes of sleep, if I'm lucky. Take heart - I called my sister, veteran mama of soon to be 4 kids, thinking I was doing something wrong. She said that their little tummies are about the size of a marble a first, so they get hungry quickly. Formula fed babies will sleep longer earlier, because formula is harder to digest and their little tummies have to work hard to process the nutrients, but breastmilk goes through quickly since it is the perfect food for babies. In a few weeks/a month her tummy will get bigger and she will be able to go longer stretches without eating. Good luck!! This is a precious time!!
Author Gwyneth Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Yeah, I actually am breastfeeding but am having a hard time with this. It's painful (I am a bit sensitive) and I feel like it's unfair for her. I am pumping as well so that she doesn't become too attached and dependent on me.
quankanne Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 stick with the breast as long as you can – lotsa good stuff to help grow a healthier baby. Nephew's wife still breastfeeds my grandnephew, he'll be 11 months next week (!), though he's supplementing with some soft table food, and the kid's a bruiser. But thank goodness, VERY healthy. Other new grandnephew is a formula fed baby, and surprisingly enough, he's a healthy little bruiser, too, at six months. Both mamas are very attentive, so I think that may have to do a lot with the thrive factor ... now, when Leni and Landon start asking for the breast by name ... well, that's your sign it's time to switch
ProudToBeMeAgain Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Congrats G!! May many blessings fall upon you and the little munchkin!
angie2443 Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Yeah, I actually am breastfeeding but am having a hard time with this. It's painful (I am a bit sensitive) and I feel like it's unfair for her. I am pumping as well so that she doesn't become too attached and dependent on me. Often when breastfeeding is painful, it's because the baby isn't latched on all the way. If this is the case, there are lots of videos on youtube you can watch that can help. As far as the sleep thing, I never was able to sleep when the baby slept with my first. With my second, I had the crib right by my bed and had the one side completely down. The baby wasn't rolling over yet so it was safe. This way, I could just sleep with the baby and when he woke up, I could nurse him. I didn't even have to sit up to do this. It helped me get back to sleep when he was done. Hope everything else is going good!
bentnotbroken Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I applaud moms who choose to breastfeed, it wasn't for me. I had big kids that ate too often for that. My youngest weighed in at 23 lbs by the time she was 5 months.
whichwayisup Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 The hospital can have a nurse come by (breast feeding nurse) to help you and make sure the baby is latched on properly.
