lifebeginsnow Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 I am trying to get opinions on what others have done after a divorce with the wedding and engagement rings? Also pictures, wedding videos, etc. It is not an angry divorce, but I believe that there needs to be some closure by purging some of the things. But I have no idea what is the "normal" procedure. I had a garage sale and sold most things with value. But am stuck with what to do with the rest of the things. I started a trunk that will go in my attic of the keepsakes, but I don't know if that's the best idea. The pictures and videos have family on them that are no longer alive, so I felt I should hang onto those. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
quankanne Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 do y'all have kids? if so, save the jewelry for them when they get older. that's what both my sisters did, telling the kids to do whatever they wanted with them – use the stones in a new setting, keep as is, etc. if there are no kids, and you don't have any attachment to the jewelry, I don't see why there'd be a problem hocking it or resetting it.
Author lifebeginsnow Posted October 25, 2008 Author Posted October 25, 2008 No kids, thank God. So keeping it for them is not an option. We will never get back together, so I flt like keeping them would just be hanging onto them for the past...which is not healing.
CoryCosmetics Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Sounds like you need to get rid of them (selling etc) in some way for you to complete the process and fully heal and move on. Good luck.
Ocean-Blue Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 My ex insisted I keep the jewelery he bought me during our relationship. I don't wear anything he's given me since we broke up. Sometimes I think I'll melt the stuff down and make something for my kids, when I have them. He was my best friend and someone I'll always carry in my heart. I would want my kids to have a small part of him... Is that weird? I wonder what my bf would say about that. I just thought of this idea...like right now. Or I will donate it to charity.
misternoname Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 We kept our individual pieces of jewelry with the exception of her engagment ring (which I dropped $10k on just a year ago!). We brought it to the jeweler that built it. He's selling it on consignment and we've agreed to split the proceeds. Anyone live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area? It's a beautiful 2 carat radiant cut with surounding stones set in platinum. I'll make you a hell of a deal!
