ahsumgurl909 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 This is tragic. If we could just have a solid down for the People type Government. This scares the crap out of me. Because I am a 45 year old woman whom has never owned a home nor have I ever had credit. But I cant get credit either. To even try to get somewhere in my life. If this is happening to people who have had the good things in life. Maybe I should be grateful I never did. Does anyone else have an opinion about this? Tony T Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 The current financial crisis is causing many stress-related problems. Suicide is only a rare result. The number of people in severe depression from loss of savings, homes, jobs, declining retirement resources, etc. is staggering. From that, you get a very high number of relationships in turmoil because of financial stress. Moving on, many people are in a quandary because they need a new car, appliance, etc. but credit is not available to do so. Many families are having to feed the same number of mouths with less money and much higher food costs. That ain't easy. These are the times that try mens' souls. But we will get through this. It may take a while. There is absolutely no reason to shoot oneself in the head. This will pass and the world will get better. And hopefully more people will be forced to live within their means, with less stress, and society will stop promoting life with vast amounts of easy down payments. carhill Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 My wife is in the process of buying her first house at the ripe old age of 49. Even a self-employed person (her) with a very modest income can qualify for credit and a mortgage if one knows how to do it. I've been unemployed most of my life (I own a business) and have no issues at all with this mess we're in, even though it's hit me in my savings, retirement and real estate holdings. Life is far more than money. I'll eat the fruit off the trees and barter for food and gas if I have to. Having Depression era parents instilled many values of modest living in myself. I've fed at the trough of consumerism and have my toys and debt load but mom and dad's refrain of living modestly has always been right there in the background. I'm sorry to hear about people being so despondent that they kill themselves. I know that feeling. I also know that it passes and life does work out if one accepts it and does their best. Let's hope the toll is minimal
sedgwick Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 No offense, but what does this have to do with coping with a breakup?
carhill Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 OP must have thought that "coping" was generalized and not relationship-specific
bayouboi Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Although my purpose for browsing this forum was to see issues from breakups, I've since seen many people type situations where they are just coping with emotions in general dealing with a range of events from breakups to deaths of loved ones, etc.
