I am engaged and we are buying a house together and getting married in a year. we are working on our home and it's has taken a major toll on our rx that now i don't know if its what he wants to continue anymore. i feel as if i am the only one that wants to get this house done and he is the procrastinator. we had 2 beautiful days outside to do work and nothing got done. i did work on one of the days but it was not enough. i makes me angry when I'm the one doing all of it (thats how i feel); then i get home and bitch at him about it. he said i sound like a broken record and he looses his patience. its horrible....i don't know what to do anymore. i really want this house and thinking of buying it no matter what he wants to do. the only thing is it's huge; but i can always get roommates on the other hand. i love him a lot....and i know we can get through this. i tell him if we are going to get married we need to work this out or the marriage is not going to work out at all. i think i need to step back a little and just let him be. its hard though when your closing date is coming up and still we have a lot to do. any suggestions?

I don't understand your post. Are you doing physical labor on a house that you don't yet own? Or is this the preliminary stuff for the loan that you mean by 'work', like giving blood samples to the finance company (I kid, but it feels like it, lol)?

If it's the former, well, I wouldn't put a minute's labor on a property I didn't own. Too many things can go wrong. The selling party could like your improvements so much that they decide to keep it, or sell it to someone else at a higher price.

Maybe they're building their house, as general contractors?

Still doesn't match up right, but would explain the "work" aspect....

Perhaps a FHA loan. Houses need to meet certain standards to be considered, and a buyer might actually do the work to make it qualify. Yes, there is a certain amount of risk involved.

Maybe your guy is just a procrastinator? I peeled up the vinyl tile in my foyer to replace it with ceramic several months ago, and I haven't even started shopping for tile yet! At this rate, I *might* be done with my home improvements by the time I'm ready to sell the place.
