Does anyone here believe in the Law of Attraction?

I do. Maybe it's a foolish belief but I do. I always have been extremely optimistic about relationships.

Your opinions?

No.

It's a re-hashed version of hundreds of self-help books, coupled with the philosophy of ancient Eastern philosophies and religions, and it's designed to attract the Author a lot of money.

Which it has done.

It's all been said before. All the author has done is tie it up into a neat little package, market it., sell it as an original, plagiarise ideas from other sources and get rich quick.

Your's is not a foolish belief. Because " In the world everyone must attracted or attached by some relationships". That is common for anyone.

Foolish pseudoscience.

I am willing to grant that your thoughts can affect the "universe" by virtue of the fact that your attitude affects your interactions with those around you, and that an openness to positive experiences leaves you... well... open to postive experiences.

But the idea that the universe delivers things you desire as a result of your thoughts - pure hokum.

I believe the concept has merit. So yes I do too.

What impact has optimism had on your experiences? Do you find yourself having more/different types of experiences than your peers?

I must say that I LOVE the theory behind The Law of Attraction! I am a Christian by faith but respect all other faiths and The Law of Attraction has interested me because of simularities I see within how some people interact and others dont and the unfolding consequences of behaviours - no matter what a person calls themselves in relation to their view of consciousness/faith. Having purchased both the book and DVD (The Secret) which discuss the said Law in detail I can say that it has a natural essence which is very attractive to children and adults alike. I appreciate that the direction of the forces of work described within The Laws of attraction are an attempt at explaining the 'how to do' element presented to us within The New Testement.. which did initially surprise me because I thought that The Secret was going to explore some lost civilisation or something.

I know a little about physics but not much so I am interested in lines of thought from those who do not believe in The Laws of Attraction who are learned in the hard sciences but being one who works with the messiness of peoples lives I do see a lot of workablility within the The Law of Attraction more so than the hard sciences, which do not offer any hope in such regard.

I particularily enjoy reading Deepak Chopra who proports something along a simular vein to The Law of Attraction but not from an entirely Christian perspective.

I also enjoy reading the debates he has with other leaders of hard science on related topics. For example, regarding the afterlife..

I just started reading The Secret to see what all the hub bub is about. I can't say I believe most of it, but I can say this - thinking positively and goal-directing your thoughts will put you on the right track to taking the steps necessary to see good things happen in your life.

See I belive in the concept like others. I believe that being positive in the face of even extreme hardships (read: Persavearance) will bring something positive to you in the end. Even if it's not what you were expecting.

Example: I was positive in this relationship with this girl who said she wasn't interested in dating right now, that I could eventually get into a relationship.

What did I want with my positive mental thinking? I wanted to be with her.

What did I get with my positive mental thinking? I got experience in telling the difference in so called "friends" and "friend-abusers".

Not exactly the romantic mushy stuff most would expect but overall not a bad life lession. That isn't to say I didn't easily get over her. The only way I did get over her was her moving to North Carolina for a new job.

The Law of Attraction to me is more about positive mental thinking. To quote a cliche phrase: "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."

I don't have any disagreement with this at all. I think a positive outlook and attitude can be a powerful force for real change and growth in a person's life, but I believe the mechanisms of that change are (1) the real effect that your attitude and behavior has on those around you, and (2) the openness and positive approach one takes to the opportunities with which one is presented.

If that's ALL that this so-called "Law" of Attraction states, then I'm good with it.

However, it seems that the more fundamental idea of the "Law" is that strictly by the power of your positive thinking, you will influence what "the universe" delivers to you in the form of opportunities. I don't agree with that - any real influence your attitude and outlook have on the opportunities delivered to you are a result of the direct influence your behavior has on those around you, and your openness to being receptive to the many and assorted opportunities that we are all presented with every day. You don't need some fancy, metaphysical "Law" that misapplies everything from religion to quantum physics to get from here to there.

Unicorns and wizards are fun to believe in, too, but they don't really to explain how life really works.

Again, I agree: Have a positive, confident outlook, and process the opportunites that present themselves in your life through those filters, and your life will likely be better than if you were negative and closed. But you don't need metaphysics and quantum theory to explain that.
