Lately, I've been meeting alot of women that like football (yeah....WOMEN being hard into sports as much as men are, go figure....never thought I'd see the day, lol)

Gone are the days of the "Football Widows" I guess and it looks like I might become a male version of a football widow.lol.

But, ladies....if die hard into sports, ie - football....would you date a guy that has no interest in watching sports whatsoever?

Me, personally, I don't care much for sports...that's the great thing about cable TV, I prefer to watch a nice Sunday afternoon movie with my lady instead of boring ol' football. I do attempt to watch sometimes, but I don't last 5 to 10 mins, lol.

Also...what's the deal with women being into sports like this? How did this happen? You'd be suprised back in the 80's how many girlfriends/wives go "Ugh....I'm stuck doing nothing this weekend, because he loves to watch his games" or some complaint about their sig other...but in a joking way of course.

It's like the tables have turned.

I can't stand football but love, love, love hockey!

One of my fave things to do is to curl up on the couch with a loved one and enjoy some excellent playoff hockey, whether my team is in it or not.

Doesn't really answer my question.

With modern advances such as washing machines, dishwashers, microwaves and Benadryl for putting children to sleep, many women realized that sports were, indeed, fun. Why shouldn't we watch them, too, and share the "honey, will you get me a beer" 50-50?

I love baseball and like hockey. Go Cubbies!

I'm a guy, but this is a pretty easy question to answer on your own.

If the girl is a diehard sports fan, then watching and following her teams is an important part of her recreational life, and if you have zero interest in sharing in those interests of hers, well then, you guys will have trouble dating her.

OP, think about it. If you like sports and you like sex, you'll date a girl who likes sex and doesn't like sports :)

The same goes for women. If they like sports and want to have sex with you, and you don't like sports, they'll date you :)

Why's that? Actually, I have known plenty of couples to have completely different interests, even married couples. Chances are personality, qualities and characteristics are more important to them than a mere hobby.

LOL....there's a common interest...as long as you BOTH like sex, it shouldn't be an issue. :)

Fair enough. But let me put it like this. I am very into sports, I have to watch every Jets, Rangers and Yankees game. Now, this is something that's important to me, my current girlfriend absolutely loves watching all these games with me, and we spend time together doing so.

I had a previous GF who was not interested AT ALL, and whenever I wanted to watch a game, she'd go out, or go to another room. Not saying that I could've forgone watching the games, which I did, and I wasn't thrilled to miss out on something I loved b/c of her lack of interest.

But to me, it is wonderful to be with someone who shares in these interests with me and it enables us to spend much more time together, as opposed to it be a hindrance to each other and a source of periods of time that we will def. not spend together.

Of course I would date a guy who wasn't into sports. I would also date a black man, a Jewish man, a white man, a Muslim man, an Irish man, a blue collar man, a white collar man, a man in a truck, a man in a Mercedes.

I am pretty open minded, and if there is enough about your personality that makes me like you enough to want to spend time with you, then some differences just make us more likely to stay happy and healthy in the long run.

Keep a sense of humor, a lively intelligence, basic kindness, some romance, a sense of give and take, and empathy, and you will do fine!

So, I hear your GF is a professional dog handler. Trains, goes to shows, tours. Very passionate. Can't miss a show. Do you stay or do you go? Is you interest genuine or is it acquired? Be careful about that part. Not everything is as it seems. Now, if you and GF met at a dog show (or at a Jets/Rangers/Yankees game), then it's all good. :)

All I'm saying here is that women (and some men, myself included) can acquire interests which our mates are passionate about as part of the inspiration imparted by being with that person. It isn't always a reflection of our innate interest...

....which goes back to my previous answer :)

Yup. Nothing better than sex while watching a hockey game!

Yeah, I'm in to Science Fiction and stuff...can't find too many women into that....so I accept that, and would be open to dating those that don't.

I mean "it would be nice" but...sometimes you don't get that. :)

Hey Bells, my wife's a die-hard Heinlein fan and reader. Sci-fi doesn't get much weirder than that. Me, I always wondered why they thought that stuff was fiction.... ;)

Also...what's the deal with women being into sports like this?

After decades of women complaining about losing their men to sports and being unable to follow the play. The sports and television industry has advanced itself. HDTV's make questions like "Where's the puck!?, "What team is the guy in stripes on!?" or "How do you perform the hat trick!?" non issues. Those sorts of things that have boggled the minds of women for decades.

Those cries were answered, and things like shadowing the puck with little blue trails and innovative replays and angles (played multiple times) with full play by play commentary were added like training wheels on a bike (some later removed). Following that the entire female collective conscious at that moment went "OH!!!!!?:o i get it now" Add that to 720p and 5.1 surround or better, they can no longer make excuses about dislike due to not being able to follow the game!

It's like the tables have turned.

You're right, the modern woman has become much more full contact now. Soon a copy of hockey's greatest hits will replace roses

^^^ Here's a prime example, the above poster is expressing an avid interest in playoff hockey. Which means she's still working on some vices during the watching/following of the regular season games! Mind you she elaborates to her favorite team being in it *or not* from this i can only discern the team is probably the sports equivalent of a musical one hit wonder or a (first rounder). While a little angst or apathy may exist here, it makes for good rivalry and or LTR endurance testing!

I love the NFL, college football, tennis and baseball.

I'm not sure I could date someone who wasn't a sport fan, to some degree. I love competitive sports and find it entertaining and interesting.

Ha...have you been watching exhibition and opening games? They're out of shape, lines aren't stable, synergies aren't there yet. I like my boys lean and keen aka around 10 games into the regular season!

As for the silly illustrations, it's like watching karaoke, sing along to the dancing puck. Grrrr....

Btw, I still hate the rule changes. I prefer traditional hockey. Plenty of solid, legal hits.

I'm a big football fan. I have had CFL season tickets for the last 3 years with a couple friends. My bf isn't interested. He'll follow the scores, so he can talk with me about standings and what not, but he won't watch a game.

I kind of like the fact that he's not a fan. It gives me a chance to spend time alone with my friends. We go to the home games together, and watch the away games at someone's house. During playoffs, bf knows that he doesn't get to see much of me. It doesn't seem to get in the way at all.

Yep, i have been watching.:) We just clipped the wings last night. That said...Right from the opening games it's on! We don't require a buffer period to make sure all of teams post season steak dinners have been worked off or multi-layered rust removed from the skates so they can 'cut it'! Or blame it on the Zamboni flooding the ice in favor of the opposing team ;)

I always thought the General Motors Center was engineered for great performances

I absolutely agree with you, and unfortunately things wont revert back to the way they were :o But of course that 2004 love triangle between Naslund, Moore and Burtuzzi were examples of bad hits that went platinum.

It seems to be your problem, Bells, so why should we answer this? All you have to do is find a woman who isn't a die-hard sports fan if you are thinking that women being into sports and dating them is such a problem.

We flamed the Flames last night 6 -0. I can guarantee as the season progresses, the Detroit boys will get it together. If I recall, Detroit had your boys twice in exhibition. ;)

GM Place is a wonderful venue. Pretty much all seats are decent seats. With this in mind, we don't need a dancing puck!

Don't get me started on that. Moore exacerbated the situation and Bert was the idiot that lost his temper.

Oh, and Bells, it's a real bonus when a guy can talk hockey with me. While it's not the most important facet of the entire picture, you have to understand what hockey means to true Canadians!

Thank you Mr.Obvoius....however, this wouldn't be much of a message board otherwise.

Why ask a question if the answer is so obvious, even to yourself? It's not rocket science. Don't date a woman who isn't into watching sports. There, problem solved. Why do you see some women being sports fans as a problem, anyway? The world is made up of different people with different interests. It would be a pretty boring world if we were all alike.

I'm a female, by the way. The subtle reference to my sex in my username escaped you, apparently.

You are blatantly criticizing women who are into watching sports with the "What's up with that?" and the "lol's". Obviously you are one of those who are feeling that it is less feminine and a criticism against a woman who is into sports.

Then we could also say that you must be a femme guy, not very masculine, if you are not into sports since men are supposed to be into sports, women are strange and undateable if they are.

I'm not criticizing, its just a question of curiosity. I was just curious if it's a deal breaker with someone, like myself, who isn't into watching sports.

I'm mor einto obscure sports like paintball
