Gwen Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 Im getting my nose pierced next summer, and most of my friends think im too young (14) but i've seen what it would look like on me, and a tiny silver stud look good! I'm definatley getting it done, but next time my friends bring it up, what should i say to them? ~Gwen~ P.S. anyone out there who has their nose pierced, does it hurt A TON?! Please if you could describe what it felt like.
Tony T Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 For what reason are you doing this? I'm only trying to understand what goes on in the minds of people who do this sort of thing since I have never had the urge. I wish you luck and hope the outcome suits your needs.
Author Gwen Posted August 24, 2003 Author Posted August 24, 2003 well i always thought it looked very exotic, yet classy, and i wouldnt go over the edge with big studs or rings. So many people i know have them pierced and it looks so nice! ~Gwen~
PurpleAngel Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 What should you say, well if you really want it done, just tell them that you don’t feel you are too young and are really wanting to do it! Mind you I don’t think they are very attractive at all, especially when you sneeze!!! A few of my friends got them done when we where young and they promptly took them out when they realized that they no longer wanted to be hippies. He he he Good Luck with it anyway! ~PurpleAngel~
Tony T Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 I always thought it would be neat to hook up a radio to the piercings to see if reception of distant stations would improve.
Author Gwen Posted August 24, 2003 Author Posted August 24, 2003 OMG this page is supposed to be about advice! So dont say anything unless you have advice please! ~Gwen~ P.S. Everyone, im mean everyone i know who has a nose piercing had gotten it when they were 14!
clia Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 Everyone, im mean everyone i know who has a nose piercing had gotten it when they were 14! That's a bold statement. But do whatever makes you happy. Who cares what your friends think? Just bear in mind that having a piercing in your nose may affect your future employment options.
PurpleAngel Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 OK advice well as I said if you REALLY want it then do it. Tell whoever has an issue with it that you have thought about it and feel it is something that you want, FULL STOP. Once you have said this to them what can they say in return??? What other advice are you after?
Author Gwen Posted August 24, 2003 Author Posted August 24, 2003 Thx for advice, i really appreciate it (I'm not being sarcastic) ~Gwen~
Amazon22 Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 Gwen, Do what you want to do, but just remember that anything on your face makes a statement. Unfortunately, in this country, many of us make assumptions about people based on their looks. It is harder to get a job when you have holes in your face. I have MANY piercings, but carry them off very well, and have never had a problem holding a job because of them. I have 10 piercings in each ear, one in my eyebrow, and one in my tongue. All piercings, aside from my tongue, have very tiny silver hoops in them. I have never had any negative comments on them, only positive. Only certain people can get away with nose-piercings. One of the up-sides of having your nose-pierced is that if you decide you want to take it out for good you can hardly tell it was ever done in the first place (as long as it's done properly). There are many things that can happen from piercings too though. Bad infections, ripping, etc. Make sure you go to a professional who is certified through your local Health Department. Do your research too, if you see someone at your school who has a piercing that looks well maintained and healthy then ask them where they got it done. Many people in the piercing/tattoo-ing industry rely on "word of mouth" for their business, so most everything you hear is legitt. Good luck with the piercing experience! It's often a great one! -Haley ps- You have to be 18 in order to have it done, otherwise you must have parental consent (ie-your mom or dad must be with you). If you go to a place willing to do it regardless of age then get out! Chances are it's not a clean or sterile environment!
Jamie31 Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 I personally think you are a bit young to be piercing anything. Do your parents know about this? If so, what do they say about it. When people are young and stupid like that, they always want get piercings, tattoos or some other crazy fad that they will probably regret in a few years. Like someone stated above, first impressions last a lifetime and the first thing people see is your face. And some people might not take your piercing the right way. Why don't you just wait a few years and then if you still want it, then you can do it? But I mean, really...what's the point? I mean, what happens when you get a cold??? That's really gross. I remember when I was young and dumb, I wanted to get my belly button pierced. I think it looks nice on some people and at least you can hide that, but boy am I glad I didn't!!! I don't even know why I wanted to in the first place. It's just a stupid fad. Give it a year or two and you will get over it.
Tony T Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 YOU WRITE: "P.S. Everyone, im mean everyone i know who has a nose piercing had gotten it when they were 14!" So it is necessary for you to follow the pack. Why don't to try to be your own self, your own unique individual...and not worry about other people? I can't believe you are looking to 14-year-olds for examples of what to do in your life....that's wild stuff!!!
Author Gwen Posted August 24, 2003 Author Posted August 24, 2003 well when i said that thing about everyone being 14 when they got it, the point wasn't me copying them, it was that they were that young when they got it, and my mom is cool with me getting it so she would take me. Also theres this really good place to get it done, thats really safe! ~Gwen~
Lily Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 I think you should go for, you shouldn't care about what other people say! I got mine pierced when i was 13! And now I'm 17 and I work at a veterinary hospital. I am fulfilling my dream, and a little piercing didn't stop me from doing what I wanted. *Lily*
yeah juss passing by Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 I dont think ur too yOung. I`m getting mine this week and i`m 13.
Bill Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 Just what you need... a metal object in your nose. What an idea!
Metal Steve Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 in most cases, piercings are very attractive. don't let these uptight, straight edge people talk you out of it.
kristers Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 Don't listen to all of these people who are basically attacking you for thinking of doing something as "shocking" as getting a hole put in your face. If you really want it, get it. I think they look really good and am debating getting one myself. I hope that all goes well with your piercing, and that you encounter more accepting friends as well as more open minded people to reply to your posts. Have a nice day.
sonofhud Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 I don't really understand why people want to do this either. I think it looks very trashy. It also brings a lot of attention to your nose, which is not the part of the face you want people to be attracted to. If I was in a management position I would not allow you to wear it on the job if you even managed to get hired. There are a ton of people who like like me too. Appearence is very important and most piercings have not been accepted as socially acceptable by the majority of society.
Metal Steve Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 I wouldn't work for a company that was that uptight about things. I've got an 2 eyebrow rings and a lip ring, and I used to have a nosering and I wouldn't take them out for anybody. And yes, I've got a great job, I make very good money and I wear them to work everyday.

And yes, I've got a great job, I make very good money and I wear them to work everyday. My son used to say the same thing. He had those huge holes in his ears, tongue piercing, the piercing below the bottom lip, the whole works. Well, what do you know, he eventually learned that it wasn't so cool (i.e., outgrew it) AND that he could NOT get a decent paying job that he could actually be proud of looking that way. Now he's 22 and has no piercings and he's much more proud of himself and how he looks. And he's got a good job.
Jamie31 Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 I totally agree. I think people who have piercings come off as rebels who don't like to follow the rules, and that can be a real bad thing when it comes to looking for a decent job. It's just a fact of life.
cindy0039 Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 True. My son was always the kind of person that liked to be different. He's the type that really doesn't care much about what others think, because he knows he's a good person, doesn't do drugs, doesn't smoke, drinks very little, works hard, etc. But he eventually had to face the fact that because he was judged on his looks people assumed things that weren't true and it can affect your success in life. So he decided it was more important for him blend in than to be different. It's a shame society has to be that way, but it is. But now he's moving up in his chosen field and just bought his first new car and is very proud of his success (so am I) so it was all worth it.
sonofhud Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 And yes, I've got a great job, I make very good money and I wear them to work everyday. Where do you work? If places like Taco Bell and McDonalds won't even allow their employees to wear those kinds of piercings? Then again I think that kinda "freaky" store in the mall, Hot Topic, requires its employees to have hundreds of piercings. Maybe you are a tattoo artist?
Metal Steve Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 No, I'm not talking some minimum wage mall monkey job. I actually have a REAL (meaning career) job working for a software company. I'm not some stupid kid, and I've had most of these piercings for 10+ years now.
